I guess most were wrong in that Souray doesn't have any value in the league at all.

I agree with this point completely. Perhaps it's creating an attitude and closeness in the dressing room that they don't want poisoned by passengers who are making the big dollars but not doing anything to earn those paycheques.

I will be watching with interest.
I have never heard of this possibility. So you have a link to where in the CBA it would allow something like this?

Is Sheldon Souray on Twitter? Would love to read his thoughts right now...

"Yeah not even a phone call or nuthin' before they trade me to 'Waiver Wire', then asking me how soon I can get to the 'Waiver Wire', no offer of a ride or nuthin' from nobody, and I can't even find 'Waiver Wire' in my GPS - is it an expansion team or something?"

Maybe they have a trade worked out, and they will take Souray at half price but could not work out a decent deal at Sourays full contract?

I guess so.

Correct me if I'm wrong, peoples, but when a player is waived in the off-season, my understanding is that he doesn't have to go through re-entry waivers in order to be "recalled." Is that correct?

Re-entry waivers would suck for sure. Either way we'll see what happens soon enough.

I agree. That's why I said he wasn't a realistic buyout candidate. They'd be better off putting him through re-entry waivers. They'd save more money (only paying out 1/2 rather than 2/3), and they'd save close to the same amount against the cap the next two years (only a $300K difference) with no cap hit after that.

Screw them, poor babies. As far as I know, none of Katz' checks have ever bounced. The SPC spells out exactly what Souray is supposed to do if he thinks he's not fit to play. It also has language requiring him to act in the best interests of the team while he's employed. Facts are facts. If this is what's up, it's a new msg from the team - come and play or don't. We only want guys who want to be hear (or who have no other options under the CBA).

Like we really need the cap space that badly for other players...

That's not a trade, though. That's just re-entry waivers.

And I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense right now for the Oilers.

I really don't see the benefit of doing re-entry waivers. I'd rather just have traded for Brewer and get that cap hit off next year.

That being said, if he clears waivers, he can still be traded.

Does he go through re-entry waivers if called back up in the off-season?

Just shows Tambellini messed up. Souray was requesting a trade after his 63 point season, his value was at its peak, and yet the Oilers decided to hold onto him. Terrible asset management.

I think you're right. Maybe they found a trade partner that doesn't have the cap space at 5.4M but can swing a deal if Souray only counts at 2.7M?

Don't send me to the gallows for thinking this...but with Khabibulin's court case on the 7th and in the case that takes a turn for the worse, maybe he's making room to go after Nabokov?

Re-Entry waivers?

We're the last place team. We get first dibs to reclaim him anyways.

Nobody is claiming him off of re-entry waivers unless we want them to.
