Without thinking about cap implications, Andrei Kostisyn plus a pick for Gangne seems like good value.

Gagne is a big question mark in terms of being healthy though. But his talent might make it worth the risk.

I think they would have much better offers from other teams around. We'd have to send a "Flyers Like" prospect with AK (Conboy, Schultz, White, etc.. ) and probably a pick yes, since they're pick deprived.

Smart people that knows how a NHL team should be built..and that starts with a great Defence (a great QB, Markov).

Markov is worth more to us than any return if we want to win.

This merely means that SMART idiots who propose to trade Markov need to ensure that either a quality defenceman comes back, or their team has enough strength on defence to handle the "loss".

It does NOT mean that there is ONE certain player in the league, and his name is Andrei Markov, that cannot intelligently be traded, despite the fact that thousands of NHL players have been traded in the past and it works out well 50% of the time.

I'd give up AK for Gagne any day of the week.

From JSportsnet Twitter:

Sources confirm...Simon Gagne asked to waive his No Trade clause today....no trade pending.

as a disclaimer, Eklund posted this comment a few minutes prior.

I've never been very high on Andrei Kostitsyn, but I'd do this trade in a minute. I'd be willing to risk Gagne's history with injuries for his talent.

I'd be very happy to have Gange. Dude is talented, albeit it oft injured. But at this point, we really need to improve our scoring and this may be the best option. Yes he's hurt, but the year before he scored 34 goals. That would be nice to have in our top 6. I'd rather take a chance on Gagne not getting hurt because you know if he's healthy he will score..rather than a chance on AK suddenly scoring flurries of goals.

Haha. You guys really think Gagne is coming to Montreal? Why, because he is French? The Canadiens have no players the Flyers would be interested. Maybe if Halak was still in the picture it would be plausible, but right now, the Flyers are likely looking to dump some salary for a vet winger to clear space for a goalie. Only guy who would be remotely of interest would be maybe Travis Moen + picks and/or prospects. But that's about it from Montreal. I'd say he winds up in Boston for Thomas or in LA for some picks or prospects.

Lol at you thinking the Flyers are in the driver seat trying to dump a 5 million dollar injury prone player with a NTC. Flyers are taking the best offer from a team that can accommodate him and that Gagne approves.

Habs have no need for Gagne. They have enough problems with injury to pick up Glass Jaw Gagne. Good luck with the cap though.

If you can fleece Bsoton for some picks and prospects, be my guest.

Do not want Gagne...too injury prone and makes too much, plus he isn't the type of player we need. I'd take Malone or Hartnell before him.

I never said they were in the driver's seat. They are desperate to shed salary. But what is Montreal going to offer? They can't take on Gagne's $5 mil without sending something back. They have nothing of value to send back. Kostitsyn doesn't get any real cap space for the Flyers. That makes what $1.75 or so in space? That doesn't really help the Flyers out. If it was for some picks or something, ok. But the Habs just don't have the cap space to do that. Hence, he is not going to Montreal. LA has tons of cap space. Boston could send Thomas for Gagne and then the Flyers would get a goalie and create at least a little more cap room by waiving Boucher. Gotta wait and see though. It's really up to Gagne at this point because as far as I know he hasn't waived the NTC.

Gagne for Thomas is a ridiculously stupid and desperate move.

And what about this ; Gustavsson vs Gagné ?

They are both UFA next season , Leafs need offensive help and they have Giguere to do the job in front of the net . Flyers need to free up cap space and a good goaler
