I don't know why people think the guy would stick it out to play on a bottom 10 team, I mean at that point you're just trying to pad your point totals for the HHOF.

You'd think Minnesota would do it for the jersey sales alone.

Modano wasn't even 4th best in center depth on the Stars.

Richards
Ribeiro
Benn
Wandell
Modano
Sutherby

He was lucky to sneak as many minutes as he did, especially since he lost interest in team practice and coasted game-to-game.

But please, Detroit, take him. Easier to root against.

Why not? Dallas forced him out. Maybe the Stars should have shown more loyalty to him. The Wings kept Chelios around even when he was clearly no better then a 7th defenceman for a couple of seasons. Modano could still make the top 12 of pretty much every team in the NHL.

I don't see a problem with stars playing until they are no longer on top. It shows they still love the game whether they are a key piece or not. It's their life. If they still want to play, all the power to them.

I just haven't seen him play for a long time
No. And most of the time. The defensive, hard backchecking part of his game has been slowly on the decline for the past 5 years. It's not surprising most teams would rather infuse youth or tenacity into that 3rd line roll.

All due respect to the legend he is, but he's never gone hard into a corner in 22 years and I can say that a devout fan.

Ya but the Wings ended up losing Kyle Quincey for nothing because we decided to keep Chelios one last season, and he barely played.

If the Wings called, why isn't Modano a Wing by now? Seems like a good fit to me.

Yeah, just sign him, wait a few weeks, then have him announce his retirement.

legit. Thought it was a straight reply to the OP, and that you were saying the Wings were bottom 10, and I went "ummmm..."

If Dallas had any class they would sign him and let him finish out his career there.

Anything more than 1.5/year is too much. If he signs my guess is 1.2 for one year or two years at 1mil/year

I don't think we're real into nostalgia signings at this point. Some nitwit Minnesota fans that can't evolve and live in the now might be, but the management is luckily a little smarter than that.

Just retire, Mike. We'll miss you but don't sign with the Wings. I can't root for you then.

Edit I still hate Mark Messier. God, I wish people would let him wither away. One of my least favorite hockey players of all-time.

I don't support part 1: I'd love to see him play one last year (I don't hate the Wings ) but if he retires, one of the greatest American players of all time for sure.

But completely agree with the second.

HAHAHA Biggest failure video I've ever watched...

Shows major elbow..announcer.."ANNND..SHOULDER!"...Shows clear elbow from another angle..."annnnd SHOULDER, WOW, Shoulder right in the head"...*shows elbow again*..

And then, dropping the stretcher? WTF? Imagine the guy did have a serious neck injury, that could have been death right there. So much fail it does not compute.

I think the Wings would be a good fit.

Hopefully he returns for 1 more year.

Please Modano, sign with the Wings... He would take our third line to a whole new level, and our PP would also get better.

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Franzen-Filpula-Bertuzzi
Hudler-Modano-Cleary
Abdelkadar-Helm-Eaves/Draper/Ritola

that looks nice
