I find it interesting how we could win the olympics, the world cup, the world championships, the world junior championships, and yet, you only have one Canadian on your list. What about martin st louis, joe thornton, danny heatly?

Being the member of the winning team does not make you the most skilled player.

The most skilled team doesn't always win the championships, etc... the team with the best attitude, character, determination, heart, chemistry, all around game, leadership, goaltending, and coaching usually wins...

Thornton/Doan/Smyth/Marleau are not more skilled than Datsyuk, Mogilny, and Kovalchuk, but they are better all around players than them. But the question asked was who is the most SKILLED, not best ALL-AROUND player.

I know a few people who would argue you that Joe Thornton, and even Patrick Marleau are pretty skilled players, I pointed out players from Canada that I consider being some of the most skilled in the league, St Louis, Heatly etc. Ya, you're right, it does take a team that has all around skill. So, in part to the thread, what is the definition of skill. Is defensive play a skill? Is someone who can combine defensive skill and offensive skill more skilled than someone who is only offensive minded, or defensive minded? It seems like the intent of this post is to measure offensive skill only. Yet still, I think there are many Canadians that should be on the top of any list, ie St Louis, Heatly, Sakic, Thornton...

I still never recieved a reply on what the criteria for skill was, if defense was considered a skill, and if so, is someone like maybe joh madden considered more skilled because he's a good player at both ends of the ice. Or maybe a better choice is steve Yzerman.
