Ilya Kovalchuk offer

euroflyers

Quote:
Ilya Kovalchuk has offers from the Kings, Flyers, Avalanche and SKA of the KHL. All offers from the NHL are similar according to his agent.

Euroflyers is definitely credible when it comes to Euro stuff.

What exactly are we doing?

You could ask Homer, but then, I'm not sure that's he's sure of exactly what we're doing.

Isles have certainly made him an offer ... something along the lines of $100 million over 10 years ... as per the tweets from Dreger/LeBrun last night.

Even with us being able to go over the cap by 10%, we couldn't offer $6 million per.

Just be thankful Homer isn't thinking about trading Gagne for Boogard. Even though, I'm sure he thinks we need another goon.

HIGHLY doubt it will happen. This means 3 of the 4 of Gagne, Carter, Carle or Briere would have to be moved; or Timonen, which is the worst possible idea. Homer has shown sheer stupidity this offseason already so that wouldn't be too surprising.

We'd have to dump Carter and Gags (which wouldn't be all that hard if we weren't asking for anything in return) and then we'd have a huge hit for 10 years, 5 of which wouldn't be all that productive.

Though, Leighton and Shelley would be about 1/4th of his salary if we dumped them...

Great, First Gagne "supposedly" waives his NTC, then there rumors are springing up everywhere that Philly is going to make a huge trade from more than reputable sources (and even Eklund not saying he's reputable though)

now this... and I don't like it, We don't need Kovy. Besides we alreaady made our bid for him at the trade deadline.

What the hell? If we're the team who overpays this guy, I might start crying.

This is worse than Carter + Gagne for the entire Kings team.

Carter will have to give up his #17.

There is no way Kovy plays under a different number. #17 is Kharlamov, Kovys childhood hero.

EuroFlyers is actually really credible too, so confusing.

euroflyers is a very legitimate source. however:

a) the rumored gagne trade is with the kings (and possibly a third team). unless the kings are posturing to get kovalchuk to lower his price or gagne is their second option, why would the kings help the flyers acquire kovalchuk when they are also trying to land him?

b) we're giving up gagne (proven in the playoffs, injury risk, longest tenured flyer, great team guy/leadership presence) for kovalchuk (proven in the regular season but has only won one playoff game ever, seems to care more about $$$ than a good team)? unless kovalchuk wants to take 7 or less, we can't fit him on the team (and if we do, we can't get a goalie). why!?

I really just don't understand this at all. Holmgren once again manages to baffle me.

Well, to be fair to the GM, it's not like Kovy would ever meet the team's goalie anyway...

Having Kovalchuk and Carter on the same team just completely destroy all hope of developing any team chemistry...

No, I just can't see Holmgren being interested in Kovalchuk, not even straight up for Gagne money. I call BS on this.

Gags, Carter, and another player would definitely be gone if this happened.

Though, my prediction is that we start clearing salary space for Kovy and then he ends up signing elsewhere anyway.

Is this even possible?

Could we do Carter + Gagne for Quick + Simmonds and then Carle to somewhere for a 1st? That gives us the cap space necessary I guess but man... I don't know if I'm for this.

Kovy - Richards - Giroux
Hartnell - Briere - Leino
Simmonds - Powe - JVR
Carcillo - Betts - Lappy

Pronger - Coburn
Timonen - Meszaros
Bartulis - O'Donnel

Quick
Leighton

0 for 4? That would be epic and not surprising.

I would never do Quick + Simmonds for Gagne + Carter.

You'd have to think about it more like Quick + Simmonds + Kovalchuk for Gagne + Carter I guess... it's the only thing I can think of that would make this work. I don't understand it.

Edit: With Carle and Gagne off the books, that would give us roughly $8,687,500 of cap space... Maybe some sort of long term contract could create that cap hit? I don't know... We'd have to get nothing but picks/prospects in return in the trade though...

Kovy - Richards - JVR
Hartnell - Briere - Leino
Powe - Carter - Giroux
Carcillo - Betts - Lappy

Pronger - Coburn
Timonen - Meszaros
Bartulis - O'Donnel

Leighton
Boucher
