If Czechoslovakia Existed Today

Would it be a contender in international play?

Probably, I think they'd be a powerhouse- but I bet you there'd be a lot of controversy over picks. The team might favor Czech picks if their GM is biased/not so great as iirc Slovakia was sort of the "lesser" partner in the federation*- and as we saw this year there are tons of really great Slovak players. However, I think with a talented GM, they could totally compete with Canada and Russia on the World Stage- Slovakia was one-inch away from doing more than that in February.

However on a side note, a Czechoslovak hockey league would be good for both countries at the top level I think .

* I put it in quotations to verify, I'm speaking terms of power not in terms of rights, importance of the Czech or Slovak languages, intelligence, etc. From what I've read, Czech was spoken on TV throughout Slovakia up until the mid-to-late 80 and independence, and the capital was in Prague, etc. etc.

Probably not so much at junior level, and as slovakianextone stated this has been discussed several times.

I've noticed how the Czech Republic doesn't really have any "Superstars" that I'm aware of. They have more high-level players in the NHL, but nobody at the level of Gaborik/Hossa/Chara.

I may be missing something, but oh well. :O

What if the bering strait was still connected by land and Russia and Alaska touched. But what if Alaska was owned by the Chinese. What would their lines look like? But wait, what if the berlin wall existed except it wasn't in Berlin, it was in Alaska. Would Wang Chung Chang and Soy Sauce still be on lines with Malkin and Datsyuk? Let me know what you guys think the lines would look like cause I need to make a depth chart for the upcoming olympic games.

Always the same irony from Czech "brothers" :-/

For example - if CS national team exists with czech GM, he would be such biased, that Visnovsky probably miss a nomination. There are tons of examples in history that proves the Slovak player should be 2-time better than any Czech.

I like that we are divorced.

I think something like that cannot be legitimately proven. Every coach and GM chooses not only best players available, but also those players, who fit into his strategy. That's the cause why from time to time "worse" players with different role are invited instead of "better" players who don't fit into the system of play.

Maybe they didn't take Slovak players because they wouldn't be able to communicate with the Czechs because of the language barrier

I like combo Hossa - Eliᚠwith... Hemský? Jágr? Demitra?

It could be the best two-way line on international ice
