It's possible that Holmgren's offer was a one year deal, along the lines of what Hossa did in Detroit. Take a stab at winning a cup while you wait for the market to adjust to your outlandish demands.
The offer was most likely a shot in the dark but you don't know unless you try. At the same time, I have zero interest in the guy. He's a whole bunch of fun to watch when you don't have to be concerned with the scoreboard, I'd like to keep my relationship with him as such.
Holmgren refuses to trade Carter. He is enamored with him. Carter will be on this team until his trade value becomes nil. I don't see Holmgren going after Kovalchuk nor would I want him. I do see him leveraging Gagne which he pretty much has no choice and I fear the wing situation if he is dumped. All this speculation though is driving me bonkers...let's get it done already so we finally can crucify Holmgren with the incriminating evidence...
Let's put it this way. if we trade Gagne, our number 1 pure winger becomes Scott Hartnell... (not including Briere or Giroux). I mean, if this happens, we can all hope that JVR makes the jump to a breakout season, but i don't see that happening as soon as next season. I want NO part of Kovalchuk on this team.
EDIT: on euroflyers Twitter, he states that 'a russian website' claims that the Flyers are in on Kovalchuk. I think he is getting this from a secondary source and not one of his own, so it might not be legit. http://twitter.com/euroflyers
This is just getting worse and worse. We were all on cloud nine a month ago, in the middle of an amazing dream, had to piss, woke up, came back to reality, then we all fell asleep and fell into a nightmare that we cant escape. Is this **** really happening? Did we come 2 games short of the Cup and Holmgren is blowing the team up? Did he really give Leighton 1.5 per year? Shelley 1 and change per year? What the **** is going on, Im losing my mind.
