I personally would prefer the term of 5 to 6 years. I have always been weary of long contracts. It would be nice to get him under five but I see it closer to 6 and above.

I'd go 10 years for $6 million a season and tell Suter he'll get the same deal in a year.

I agree with Glen. It has to be at least 7 years. It has to be at least 6. If you start tacking on years, it is typically to lower the cap hit. We have no need to do that, BUT, I would still love for them both to sign for 7-8 years at a minimum.

yes it would be a ton of money either way but Shea should be looking to maximize his lifetime earnings.

taking a guaranteed 5.5x10 is better for him than taking 7 for 7 and then hoping nothing happens to him and that he can still get a good contract at age 34
