Why don't teams use offer sheets any more?

He's saying it doesn't list every time a team tried to offer sheet a guy, but the player declined.

Frankly I don't see why offer sheets aren't used more often. If the Oilers were a playoff team the year after signing Penner, then it would've been a great deal for them. If the Oilers finish one spot better, then that pick might end up being Colton Teubert. Again, good deal for the Oilers. In fact, the Oilers might not have even drafted Myers regardless of where they were in the draft.

That Oiler team didn't have all the much cap space, probably less than your average average team, so for a lot of teams (any team that finished ahead of the Oilers that year outside of Ottawa (Karlsson)), the Penner offer sheet would've been a fantastic deal.

Offer sheets are great when they're in that 1st, 2nd, 3rd territory and lower, because there's a good chance the team making the offer is getting the best player back in the deal. As it stands, Penner is the Oilers' best goal scorer, and outperformed his contract last season. The Oilers also have a good chance of retaining a still improving player's rights after his contract runs out, a chance they wouldn't have had they not traded for him.

Teams should be jumping all over Chicago right now, offering 2-3 million deals to their RFA's and forcing Chicago to make tough decisions, all the while not giving that much back in return.

the question was, why don't teams follow the Oilers example. The Oilers showed desperately throwing around money and picks doesn't work. There was no plan to who they targeted, they just targeted anybody who would listen.

First of all, how do things get worse than dead last?

Secondly, you don't seem to understand the situation. The Oilers aren't contending any time soon. So why would those contracts be such a huge problem? Cap issues for their major deadline acquisitions on their way to the Cup? Hardly.
I can't see them realistically finishing higher than 2nd last next season. No team has been mismanaged like the Oilers since Reggie Houle shipwrecked the Habs 10 years ago.

To be fair, a lot of man games were lost to injury.

No, the question was why don't teams use offer sheets anymore...and because no team in recent history has ever made more than one other than the Oilers (with 2) they were mentioned in the beginning

But you're trying to tell me that mentioning Souray, Horcoff, and Khabibulin has anything to do with offer sheets? Really? It's completely off topic...the thread is not supposed to be questioning poor management decisions, if it was I would come back with something relevant about your team

Tambellini has done a lot of work trying to fix the mess than Lowe left....questioning management isn't really fair...Souray and Horcoff's contracts were not his, neither was Pisani...Tambo signed Khabibulin to be a mentor to 2 young goalies and he got hurt...if some other team makes that signing and he gets hurt it's not talked about nearly as much as it is when the Oilers finish last...Souray was not a bad signing...the guy was an all-star before and after the signing, are you really gonna blame management for his injuries? Gets tripped and goes head first into the boards, breaks his hand on a guys helmet, has surgery and it gets infected, demands a trade b/c he is frustrated with his situation and doesn't like management apparently...clearly not management's fault

Since Tambo and co. has claimed we are in a full rebuild, which was basically once we were eliminated from the playoffs, he has done the following: picked up Ryan Jones, Colin Fraser, Jim Vandermeer, Kurtis Foster, Macintyre, Alexandre Giroux, and counting...he has been creative in getting rid of deadweights like Staios, Moreau, O'sullivan, and Nilsson...has also had a good draft that has started building the shape of what the team wants to look like into the future (Can't credit him for Hall b/c that fell into his lap and we don't know which of him and Seguin will be better)...and now he is addressing his RFAs and signing some good AHLers to make sure the farm team is competitive so our prospects can develop on a good team...not sure how much of that you can question and/or insinuate that he won't be capable of building a contender for the future

Now that I have that out there, I'll stay on topic
