Gillis will get it done.. Raymond will take 2.75 for 4 years or maybe closer to 3..either way he will be dirt cheap and will take less to stay in Vancouver
If that was the case, then why did he file for arbitration?

because the Canucks only offered him 800k or something to buy more time for RFA arbitration date to be set.

How can Raymond demand more than Burrows or Samuelsson on the Canucks? the only thing he has on them is he is younger..which is why he will make 2.75 mil

The Sedins were both 80 point players when they signed their contracts and Burrows signed before he ever scored 25 goals. I'd be surprised if Raymond takes anything less than 3.

Its called bargaining. Theres probably a chance taht they will settle before it even happens. This just sets a definite time period for the signing and gives either the team or player who has the better case to get more money with the threat of getting "market value" at arbitration.

Or quick way to get to UFA.

sedin didnt sign this offseason, he came off an 82 point season, burrows signed before his 35 goal season too.

why would raymond file for arbitration if he was happy taking a 2.75 for 4 years deal? do you think gillis is actually offering less than that?

Theres no way Raymond doesnt get resigned, whatever the arbitrator awards him, Gillis will pay him. Canucks can afford him as long as they move bieksa.

Thats like saying why Kesler earns more than them. Its all about timing and 2.75 is already more than either player you mentioned. Based on Raymond's stats, it can range from anywhere between 2.5 - 3.5 (inflated due to some recent signings but i somehow doubt it will be over 3 mil). His production at the end of the season dropped off and that at least cost him .25-.5m.

Given his current status, if we reaches a deal with MG, i doubt its for more than 3 years as his agent would probably want to hit the UFA market ASAP (which would be in 3 years). Something along the lines of 7.5/3 seems likely as that contract seems to be MG's favorite contract. Of course with MG, he might be able to add a few years to the deal (if he's high enough on Raymond) and add a bit of money like he did with Kesler.

Raymond knows where he fits in the Canucks salary structure. He's somewhere in between Samuelsson's $2.5 million and around that $3 million mark. I'd say he'll probably settle out at around the $2.8 million mark over 2-3 years. He's not an UFA.

Yeah except Hanks career high was 82 when he signed for 6.1 and Burrows was in the midst of a 28 goal season, he hadn't scored 35 yet.

I want Brule back, he could end up like a Patrick Sharp type player.

If David Booth is a 4.25 million dollar player Mason Raymond has a strong case for being a 3.5+ million dollar player.

For Raymond, I would expect something just north of 3.0, and they should pay it.

Ya, but Vancouver doesn't have to pay a premium to keep their players; plus that Booth contract is outright terrible, I don't think you can make much of a comparison to a contract that freaking awful.

What he said.

I hope Brule gets signed before arbitration.

Joe Pavelski is at 4 and Patrick Sharp is at 3.9. Those guys and Booth are Raymond's comparables. I'll be shocked if Raymond gets less than 3.5 unless he asks for something goofy like 5 million and the arbitrator sides with whatever the Canucks offer by default.

Wow.

You just compared Mason Raymond to Pavelski and Sharp? I love the guy and everything, but you're overrating him severely here. If I proposed a Raymond for Pavelski/Sharp swap Sharks and Hawks fans would quite rightfully laugh me off this board.

I'm guessing he wanted a two way contract and they wouldn't give it to him?
