So the tenured offer was too low. Predictions now?

If he has another good year he gets a big contract from us or somebody else

If not he takes a similar contract $ wise to what he gets from arb on a long term deal

Even that might be more than what he gets through arbitration.
This is pretty good news.

If the Hawks won't agree to the arbitration number he becomes a UFA right?

Are arbitration contracts 1 year deals?

I believe there is a 2 yr option but it is rarely exercised (Not 100% sure of that)

Yes Niemi would be a UFA if Hawks walk away from the arbitration #

This is good news and I was hoping he would do this instead of seeing what other teams would offer him. He would get more money going this route. I think that because i really believe that these teams would try to push the hawks up to 3 mil without going into the 1st and 3rd round picks compensation area and while that area might be worth it(if they did go into that area) I want a goalie this season, that isn't Huet, and for the future and I think Niemi can be our guy

If it is for less then 2.4 million I'm all for bringing Nemo back. every 100k after 2.5 gets me more and more guarded about that fact.

Bingo. When he goes to arbitration he's going to get a reality check for how much a goalie who plays half of a season plus a good playoff is really worth. That is no more than $2.25 mil.

I think about Leighton... why should Niemi get 1 million more? Or Ellis and Niittymaki...

Niittymäki got 2yrs/4mil from San Jose, I think that might be the best benchmark for Niemi. Antti had a great playoff run, which could enhance his value a bit. I think he'll sign a two-year contract worth 4,5-5 million before arbitration.

Almost every goalie should make more then Leighton , He sucks

Cant believe the Flyers overpaid for him before FA started

They could have had Ellis or Mason to be there #1 next year

I know... but look at the numbers and Leighton also went to the SC Finals... so 1yr with 2.1 should be OK for both.... If not... I really wouldn't mind Theodore + (in a trade Ersberg)

Yeah Leighton went to the SC Finals about the same way Grossman went to the Super Bowl

Depend on your D to overcome your mistakes and pray that you dont run out of luck

Replace D with O and that sounds a lot like how Niemi won the SCF.

Halak @ 3.75. I would be absolutely shocked if Niemi signed for anything less than 3.5.

That's a four year deal, they're not comparable.
