Dont we usually get the final roster on a piece of paper there at the rink? And that's never right either.
I miss the days of Piney Orchard and not knowing a single soul on the ice until we did the legwork to figure them all out.
Yes, the roster handed out is usually missing the FAs and it's a game of who's who. One of the years, maybe it was last year, they mistakenly put out the roster available to media for all, but pretty sure they didn't mean to hand out the list that included the FA invites. Usually we have it narrowed down to all but 1 or 2 by the end of day 1. And in past years there have been the off-ice sightings of players like Lepisto participating in the off the ice stuff and/or receiving medical care, etc.
I don't miss Piney, other than the lack of people, but that was the case the first couple of years at Piney, too.
Nice...and with my slow work schedule I can certainly hit up some stuff at Kettler since it's down the street from my work(okay one metro stop away). For anyone going...hit Chevys for their $3 margaritas during happy hour.
I honestly think that we got a gem in Orlov. He was called the steal of the draft last year. He dropped because of the so called "Russian Factor". Really liked the draft last year. MJo and Orlov, who else?
Notes: Only 3 players on my original list not on the roster and no surprises, i.e., the free agent invites are not listed.
Miskovic is on the list although currently RFA, he did receive a qualifying offer.
Andrew Glass not on roster; possible he was invited and can't attend due to conflict and/or injury; note he has attended in previous summers and as an NCAA player has to pay his own way.
Josh Godfrey not on list, but Bruess is. The 2 players that didn't get assigned to Hershey after SC's season was over. Godfrey did have a concussion near the end of the season only returning for 1 game before sitting again. He has also attended a number of camps in the past, but question his future in the organization anyway (I know I'm not alone on that topic.)
Larson - Not on roster; has never attended as an NCAA player and still not clear if Caps are even holding his rights anymore.
(Original Text removed from first post:
This is a bit early since the Caps haven't announced the schedule details or a roster yet, but since it is a little over a week away...
Anyway, if the mods want to keep up great; if they want to lock it until the official info. is released go ahead.
This is just a list of prospects (Caps hold rights) and contracted players - All speculation right now, although there have been a few mentions in articles about certain players planning to attend including several of the new draft picks. No indication from the Capitals as of now, which players are expected to be in attendance. Not sure if Holtby and Miskovic would be invited/expected to attend given their seasons in the AHL and have attended camp before; also, Miskovic is RFA right now; based on history both attending and not attending has occurred in this situation.) Larson is the only one I'm not sure if they still are holding his rights or if they released them at some point.)
Andrew Glass (NCAA; 2007 draft)
Josh Godfrey (ELC; 2007 draft)
Nick Larson (Minn. HS/USHL; 2007 draft)
Last year I had two mishaps w/camp. One scrimmage started one hour later than I thought and another was canceled all together. It's an hour long train ride to get to Kettler so I'm not anxious to repeat this. What site would be the best for checking before I leave for Kettler? Probably here? Would anyone there be tweeting? Who? Japers? Tarik? Corey?
I will likely be there Monday for the early group, and maybe Tuesday for both groups. If I'm there I'll be doing some kind of short-form write-ups, I'd guess. Hopefully there will be a Saturday scrimmage live chat as well, but I haven't heard any solid plans on that.
Not when you just let him stay in school for 4 years, don't get him into the Black Aces, then bring him into camp.... as a forward. If this kid can't get Hershey time at D this year he's toast.
Reports were that the Caps tried to get him to leave early and Finley chose to stay in school.
Finley was in Hershey one year after his season ended but before he signed so he couldn't participate, just watched and got a feel for the organization, etc.
Only season he was eligible for the black aces was a year ago once his NCAA eligibility was up and he signed an ATO and played in one regular season game in '08-09 (had the "fight" with Bissonnette). Pretty sure he went back to UND to finish some classes some point after that game.
I thought the timing of the Broda heading to Austria news was a bit odd with development camps taking place right now. It's interesting in that I thought the report was he had already left for Austria; perhaps that was a translation issue.
I'm not surprised to see him get a dev. camp invite. Good for him.
Caps did try hard to get him to leave after his junior year so that was Finley's choice. Last dev camp scrimmage I thought he looked decent. Pretty agile for a big guy though obviously not very fast but there are other dman with foot speed like that in the NHL but it really means they need to have a head for the game to anticipate the play. As much as we all drooled at Finley's potential back in the day I pretty much have no expectations at this point. Would love to be surprised.
