I almost didn't believe the thread title when I saw it. They're actually hiring team alumni for a front office position? Not just any alumni too, but one of the most popular Panthers in their history. I LOVE it!!!

I am thrilled to see these guys back int he organization. This should have happened years ago, as I have always wanted Skrudland as our head coach and maybe he someday will be. Too bad these guys cant suit up because on the ice we have regressed again.

I was kinda upset with Skrudland years ago during a Dallas Stars interview on HNIC. when he disregarded his time with the Panthers organization when asked a question about his former team. However, hearing him speak since he has retired maybe he has come around a bit on that and cherished that time in FLA. a lot more now looking back on his career.

Awesome to see Skrudland back in the organization. Would love to see Laus back in some capacity, too.

Tallon is doing a great job of setting the tone.

Might been pissed off with the way he left the organization. We all know our old managments haven't been that good and many players have afterwards said so.

Bringing back Laus in some form would be the icing on the cake.

Can we bring back Potvin too? Ranger games just aren't the same without the Potvin drinking game.

I think it was other way around, he became UFA, Panthers couldn't match Rangers' offer. Panthers couldn't justify what he was asking, he scored only 5 goals during the last season.

Yeah, Skrewy chased the money so I don't see how he could be upset, I remember that contract he got with the Rangers was overpayment. I was upset with him for awhile but I got over it a long time ago, glad to see him back in the org. It just feels right, I think he's going to do a great job.

It was gross overpayment. If I recall, he'd scored 32 points with 16 goals in an injury-plagued 1996-97 campaign, and the Rangers threw some insane amount of money at him. Can't recall if it was $3.5M or 5.1M or some such. Anyway, ridiculous money, just because they could.

Indeed, it was the Rangers' habit of doing that that led to the 2004 lockout and the new CBA. Which expires soon, does it not?

NHLPA and Owners have extended the agreement for one year. The NHLPA is currently in disarray and have agreed to keep extending the CBA until one side or the other backs out.

Through 2012. I hope we don't see a new lockout

I read somewhere about how the cap is in the NBA, something that you're allowed to spend more money on players drafted or something by your organisation without it affecting the cap in the same way it does in the nhl. maybe someone can clarify how that works, but from what i understand it sounds like something they really should consider

We shouldn't copy the NBA. I think the NBA plans on changing their system next CBA anyway.
