I almost blocked out the memory of the Klotz pick. It still sickens me that people in this organization thought that there were only 65 players better than him in 2007.

I didn't understand how anyone in the organization could defend that pick when it was made, and I sure as **** don't know how anyone could even attempt to defend it now. The guys the Flyers employ as scouts are professional talent evaluators, right? It should tell you something when the kid himself wasn't even expecting to be drafted (Klotz was sleeping when the pick was made and thought someone was playing a practical joke on him when he got the call). Obviously, hindsight is 20/20 and who knows if the guy the Flyers had picked instead of Klotz would have panned out. Still, that doesn't excuse selecting a guy in the 3rd round, who, by all accounts, was on the fringe of getting drafted at all. The Flyers weren't outsmarting anyone, except for themselves.

2010-11 AHL Lineup Update

Maroon - Pither - (Laliberte)
Testwuide - Kalinski - Nodl
Wellwood - (Labrecque) - Legein
Harper - Holmstrom - Rinaldo
Klotz - Rowe - (Clackson)

Lehtivuori - Gustafsson
Marshall - Bourdon
*(Bodrov) - Stephenson

Backlund
Bobrovsky
Stewart

Underline denotes AHL-only contract.
Parentheses denote in need of contract.
*Reportedly offered contract but no word yet on decision.

That's pretty much what we're looking at. We're a little short on centers so I threw Holmstrom and Rowe in there. As most of you know, Matsumoto was traded to Carolina and Ross recently signed in Atlanta. As per @EuroFlyers, Bodrov was offered a 3-year contract, and his agent was confident it would be signed. That said, nothing's been heard about Bodrov since. @PSPhantoms hasn't heard anything either, and he noted that the management wasn't too pleased with Bodrov.

I also talked to Tim McManus (@PSPhantoms) about the Phantoms' roster. He seems to want a veteran or two brought into the lineup, but I'm not so sure how that's going to be possible.

I would image one of the centers will be some borderline NHLer with A league min 2 way so we get some more vet presence.

Good idea but the evaluation camp is from July 30th to August 7th and Michael Parks isn't on the roster

He has to prove he deserves to be in the AHL because he's got a lot of competition, if he falters it's either ECHL or an AHL loan arrangement for another team in need of a goalie.

Guys just a quick question I know this has been answered already I just can't seem to find it. Seeing how I don't get to see them play I was wondering what are the ceilings on Bobrovsky and Eriksson?

Eriksson has done a great job at the 2nd level as a 19 year old, almost beating a few records. This next season will be big for him in deciding his future.

Bob on the other hand did a very good job in the KHL for the worst team in the league. I am very interested in how he does this week and the other camps. Ill comment alittle more after I see him tom.

We could have had Jamie Benn. Instead, we have Garrett Klotz.

This isn't really about our system, but does anyone know if Chace Polacek signed with anyone? Since I hadn't seen anything I thought he would be heading back to RPI for his senior year, but I figured I'd try to confirm that.

Yeah, he's headed back to RPI.

You have a particular interest in him? He's fairly dominant for a 5'8 kid.

I'm an RPI alum and he was probably the best player I saw in my time there (this was before D'Amigo). He flashes a ton of skill, but his size is a huge red flag. I'd like to see an RPI guy do well in the NHL. Pothier is the only one around that I can think of, but he was before my time.

We could have had Larry Robinson instead of Larry Wright, Patrick Roy instead of John Stevens, and Henrik Lundqvist instead of Roman Cechmanek. It is what it is, though.
