An Interesting Record That May Be Set This Season

If Hejduk plays in at least 32 games this next season, and knock on wood, he will, he'll move past Sakic into the number one slot for number of games played for the Avalanche. (Duke currently sits at 839 games, Sakic at 870.) If Hejduk hits 80 this season and the playoffs (if there are any playoffs) he'll get the number one spot for games played in the regular season plus the playoffs. An interesting milestone to be passed, if indeed it is, for the franchise. Sakic has plenty of other records that no one's going to touch for a while, but it looks like he's going to lose games played.

(Also of note, Liles could potentially move from #8 all time, past Tanguay and Roy into #6. Stastny could jump from #28 to #14 if he plays in all 82 games.)

I'm assuming you mean #52 Adam Foote instead of David Jones?

Now hey there, I dunno if Jonesy is quite that good yet....

But yes, 21, 23, and 52 need to go up, at least since we put 77 up there.

Random question in relation to this....

If Sakic's time with the Nordiques was included with his Avs games, would he be the Nordiques all-time leader?

Cheers for Hejduk, but Sakic has way way more games with this franchise if you include his Quebec time. He gets screwed in a sense by the franchise move (same with Foote).

Just further evidence how incredibly awesome Sakic was.....and how great of a career statistically Hejduk has had.....I didn't think he was a lock to get the number retired, but after looking through this....he has a really good argument.

The organization has long neglected it's roots in Quebec- I'd like to see Peter Stastny, Anton Stastny and Michel Goulet have their numbers retired.

And if PL had not be such a short-sighted GM Chris Drury's name would be up on that list of games played.

I definitely think they should honor them, maybe with a banner with all their names and numbers on it, but retiring Nords numbers would be getting on excessive. We already have three up there, with two-three more to go in 15 seasons. That's a pretty high rate of retirement imo.

He did get Stastny out of that deal.

Should be Roy, Footer, Forsberg, Sakic, Stastny, Goulet.

6 Retired numbers over ~40 years of history. 30 if you only count NHL. While it may seem high, all 6 of those deserve it 100%.

We could hang Nordiques banners with their names and numbers. And in 10 or 15 years I'd be happy if Paul's number is worthy of hanging from the ceiling too.

I think they should put Goulet's number up there, and when Paul Stastny retires I think his entire family should be up in the rafters. Maybe not a retirement of all the Stastny numbers, but something to give honor to that family for all of its hockey players tied to these franchises. Put all three of them on one jersey or something.

I like your thinking. The Stastny are something special and deserve to be recognized.
