The Flyers are re-opening contract talks with unrestricted free agent forward Arron Asham, according to CSN’s John Boruk.

As of Monday Asham had not been contacted by the Flyers, but following Dan Carcillo’s decision to file for arbitration Monday and trade talks involving Simon Gagne, the Flyers have decided to keep their options open at the wing position.

Asham has received interest from Western Conference teams the likes of Los Angeles, San Jose and Phoenix, however, he prefers playing in the Eastern Conference where he has spent the entirety of his career.

The 32-year-old Asham had a career-best postseason in 2010, recording four goals and seven points. He is said to be seeking a multi-year contract and a substantial pay increase from the $640,000 he earned the previous two seasons with the Flyers.

Sign him two years at a slight raise (0.70m), and send Shelley to the A-freaking-H-L.

Please, for the love of god, just do it.

My god this board is so clueless when it comes to Shelley....

Asham isn't signing here, it's all a ploy to get Carcillo to sign.

0.0% chance Asham signs anywheres for under a million.

He'd still be cheaper than Carcillo at a million a year...

I've said enough about 5-6 different threads on this subject.

I've got crow waiting for everyone here when you absolutely love him.

No more Flyers getting ran at without response.

No more playoff success either, because we'll be two lines of skill deep instead of 3 or 4.

I'm sorry, when were Flyers getting run without a response?

Shelley is a complete waste of a roster spot.

Care to explain that? lol.

We are 3 lines deep.

Flyers will sign another winger to replace Gagne.

All in people's heads because they like to pretend the NHL is like Slap Shots.

Did you guys forget the first 3/4 of the season when the Flyers didn't stick up for each other or were you are blinded by the Stanley Cup run....

Well, we need two wingers to fill out our top 9 if you move Gagne if you want to really be "3 lines deep". As Shelley has no business taking a shift above the 4th line, and neither should Powe, really.

Yeah, the Flyers problems were "they didn't stick up for each other", not the goaltending carousel or Stevens.

But the fact is Turco wants to play in Philly. So much so that he has his representatives calling Holmgren almost daily, according to a team source.

If that is true... :

WHY NOT OFFER TURCO A 3 YEAR DEAL? If we can't win with Turco in 3 years we aren't winning again for a while..

Outside of the 17 games of suck, we were one of the best teams night-in and night-out in the NHL. True story.

Well, that part of the story doesn't make sense... as we supposedly offered him a 3-year 6M contract.

Right, but the insinuation was that they were completely uninterested in offering 3-years to him.

I remain so pissed off we signed Leighton prior to the market opening.

Meh, if they can sign someone else, him or Boucher will spent the year in Glens Falls. Competition for the backup goaltending spot can be good.
