Shelley isn't merely an all-star. He the Superstar. Maybe even The Franchise.

Since when were teams taking runs at us last year? Did I miss this?

Other then those I agree. They should have went with Scott or Ivannans for $1M less considering you only need them @ 30 gms a season.
Didn't Gagne himself attack A-Train?

Yep, and a goal was scored on the play.

Prepare to eat crow with your condescending comments, he will be remembered as one of the greatest Flyers ever.

McCreary was the ref staring directly at the hit as it happened, as well.

What an abortion of a game that was.

As for the summer of no plan...I guess we should have know better. It's not like there has been a plan in place since 2006. Holmgren has always been a "we'll cross that road when we get to it" operator.

Just out of curiosity, would anyone have a problem if Shelley had been signed to a 2 year deal worth 1.28 ( 640k cap hit) to play as the 13th forward? Would it have to be a deal around 500k for him to be worth it? Or would you just not like him at all?

Disagree, whether we liked it or not... Homer clearly entered previous offseasons with a set agenda and went about executing it. This year... not so much.

Was our priority defense? Seemed so... but then we tried to get Nabokov and Turco... only to then suddenly re-sign Leighton and trade for Meszaros. Then everything followed from there.

That would certainly be a lot better, but it doesn't justify signing him. There's no spot on him for this team to warrant regular playing time or the length and/or amount he got with his contract.

I'd really just like to know what Holmgren has to do to get fired. He's been getting away with **** on our salary cap for years now, so I guess he'll eventually have to murder it. Even then he probably gets a slap on the wrist to a minimum security equivalent, which is to say he gets a made-up position where he still makes six digits.

I would have been fine with Shelley on that type of deal. I don't like signing any marginal players that age to a three year deal (including Lappy). Add in that I think that cap hit is too high over three years and it's just beyond dumb.

Lappy was borderline for me. I don't like his age but he's a bit like Knuble... a one trick pony that has quite the trick.

I just didn't like the three years with Lappy. I think you need to maintain flexibility at the bottom of your roster. Two-year deals for those guys is ideal... that's where the roster spots open up for young players breaking in and the like.

tonight, I learned that teams take nonstop cheap shots at the flyers without consequence, and shelley will save the team from this terrible brutality.

......what?

I can understand if Lappy would slow the development of an offensive player but his style of play isn't exactly the type that a young kid is going to be able to walk into.

Shelley is a big, intimidating guy who finishes all his checks, skates ok and can fight with anybody. I would take him over Powe or Carcillo any day. If you think a guy like Shelley is worthless in this league because it isn't "Slapshots" anymore then you know nothing about hockey. And why do you hate people just for disagreeing with you? You should talk to somebody about that - it's not healthy.

I'm pretty sure getting a team to the 6th game of the Finals isn't going to do it.

Go find a Phillies forum somewhere and ***** about Amaro and how Halladay was a waste of a trade.

Your really siding with Homer with all he has done? Anybody can take a last place team with money, overspend for a bunch of players and become good....anybody

EDIT: I dont really consider Kimo overspended though. We needed a #1 defender and it happened.

If Mike Richards didnt all of a sudden decide he wanted to be a ppg player, we would be no where near where we are now. The only trade I really liked that Homer did was the Forsberg trade (which then netted us Kimo and Hartnell), the Coburn trade, and the Leino trade.

Thats really it though.

...Powe may be the fastest straight line skater on the team.

I won't disagree. I just have not seen much of Shelley skating, and I don't want to present an uninformed opinion.
