Who? What? Where?

We are becoming team Sweden. Ohlund, Hedman, Harju, Persson.

Not a bad signing, don't look at his age cause this guy probably had his best season in the career last season. He is a team player who works hard, is really good in the defensive play and can score some points.

A good fit for a third or fourth line and will be of good use in PK.

He seems to really want to be in North America if he's willing to take a lot less and play in the AHL. No risk some reward, at the very worst will help out Norfolk.

Id say this is at worst a decent signing and it has potential to be a diamond in the rough great type signing.

Persson played for Sweden at the World Championships and was a linemate of Lightning prospect Johan Harju, who was signed to a one-year deal previously.

"Based on four of our people in our organization who have seen him play, they think this is a good, no-risk to see if he can do it and they think he might be able to help us," Yzerman said of Persson. "We're going to give him a chance (to make the team), and he's going to be given an opportunity to play and make the team."

One of the papers today reported that there is an out clause if he doesn't make the team out of camp.

Yes he got a contract offer from his KHL club which would given him double figures to what he will earn with us.

Persson is a defensively aware forward, who also will put up the points on offense. A good puckhandler and playmaker. Has the ability to deke out a defenseman. Works very hard, leads by example. (EP)

He's a shootout/penalty shot specialist too, IIRC.

I read that he is willing to go to the AHL to stay in NA but I could be wrong.

Maybe Detroit management/Yzerman know something about swedes that the rest of the NHL doesn't. I wouldn't be surprised to see more swedes on the roster in the future.

Good signing, i especially like his nickname "the pie". Makes me smile every time

Don't be fooled by who his cousin is, on the ice they are miles apart.

Nilsson would by fit in third line. What about we have Swedish line: Nilsson - Persson - Harju
