Sources: Flyers Close to Deal With Zherdev (link to report in post #275)

Zherdev was offered a contract by the Flyers. All indications are he is going to accept it.

Marking it as "rumor" only because I have no confirmation as of yet that he has in fact accepted it. (Those of you who have read my posts from the past know that the info is legit)

Fire away! )))

awesome.
On the bright side some people wont be able to call Jeff Carter the laziest player on the Flyers if this rumor is true

At whos expense is my big question? I'm fine with him at the right price but question his heart. Of course I questioned Leios heart too so what do I know.

I say we head into the preseason with 11 lines.

If anything, this will kill the "Flyers hate the Russians" talk for a while. Until he gets scratched, anyway.

Zherdev wants $4 per.

That's insanity!

Does this mean that a deal involving Gagne/Carter is pretty much done? (I would assume then that Z's salary offer is much lower than either salary of those two)

I wouldn't mind it, but it depends entirely on the terms of the contract. I'd like to know how Laviolette feels about it though.

saw this coming...trade gags to LA or wherever and then sign a 2mil winger who brings the offense...

not like gagne was the hardest working player on our team...

I'm trying to think back and remember everything I know about him. Is this correct: fast, skilled, gives up on plays easily, good wrister, shootout specialist, falls over from the slightest breeze, was a very high pick with huge expectations. doesn't he have a bit of the Brendl syndrome where he is super talented but doesn't try very hard? I'm not trying to make him sound bad I'm legitimately trying to remember his game.

Zherdev on a good deal would soften the blow of losing Gagne. Zherdev is hitting his prime, Gagne is past it.

Are the Flyers looking to pair him with Carter or Richards? Could be interesting.

JVR-Richards-Briere
Hartnell-Carter-Zherdev
Leino-Giroux-Powe
Shelley-Betts-Lappy

Could be better. Could be worse.

I also highly doubt Hartnell-Briere-Leino returns. Solid playoff line, but I feel it won't cut it when the stakes are lower in "the grind" of an 82 game season.

Nah, just an exceptional defensive wing. Not like defense isn't all about effort or anything. WTF.

Gagne>>>>>>>>>>>>Zherdev
Any day of the week

Gagne is the best 2 way winger on the team. Zherdev is a lazy POS.
those are the facts until proven otherwise

I just noticed he played this year with the team that fired Bodrov. Interresting. Thy must have been a pretty good team. Gerber was their starter and went 15-6-6.

we cant keep gagne...it is either:

keep gagne for this year, then he walks

or

trade him get XXXX
sign carcillo
zherdev
ashy/powe

so Gagne vs STUFF + Zherdev + carcillo + space for a decent 12th (we are assuming cote is out lol)

so it really depends on what we get for gags, but it will be worth it...when it comes to resigning roo carter and leino

EDIT:
hartnell has to go summer of 11' or at the 2012 trade deadline

It still surprises me to see Carter in EVERY Flyers trade scenario considering the man who actually has the power to trade him says he is untouchable.

Add in the fact Gagne has been publically asked to waive his NTC and said then he said YES.

But proposals still have Carters name in it. So strange. You would think people would get the picture by now. Instead, we sound like Toronto fans or Montreal fans; ignore the obvious and post mock trades all day involving a player a lot of people dont like (Carter) because they hate the thought of trading a 30 year old LW with a concussion history.

A-train to NJD scared me because it means Gagne and A-train would be spending a lot of time together. We lose that matchup.

Maybe the Flyers have a new policy, move players who have head injuries histories.

Very good team. Z started out slow - but seemed to pick it up during the season. Also, lets not discount the partying that he had to deal with (poor Z) while in his home land.

After a season over in Russia - Zherdev has a TON to prove - to GMs around the league here and there. Make it or break it season for him.

Last year with Rags - I would call him their best player first 1/3 of the season. He absolutely disappeared towards the end. Coaching change????

Uh no.

We won't be able to do all of that with the money from Gagne. We'd MAYBE be able to sign Zherdev and one of Carcillo/Asham.

...dude, I was just noting the idiocy of questioning Gagne's work ethic when he's a great defensive player and you aren't a great defensive player without a good work ethic. Defense is all about effort.
