Take it from a Ranger fan -- those who think Gagne is lazy will be in for a real wake-up call if these Zherdev to Philly rumors are true. Zherdev makes Frank Reynolds look like a go-getter.

Doesn't matter. Effective age is as of June 30, 2010 no matter when the contract is signed for this upcoming season.

I feel like the Flyers team really has a way of motivating people. Maybe just me though.

It took a while but everyone bought into Laviolette. Don't see why Zherdev can't. Plus, he doesn't really have many chances after this to prove himself to a long term big time deal. After an offseason of getting into shape, I think this team should have a great start to the year.

I wasn't referring to the 35+ stuff, just think that Holmgren will do something like sign Holmgren to a 1 mill base contract a 1 mill bonus each for having a GAA below 4, playing in 20 games, and having a save percentage above .800.

Then all those bonuses will roll over to next year since otherwise we'd go above the cap, so next year we'll be operating with a lower cap and having to sign Carter and Giroux.

It's a very Holmgren thing to do.

Laviolette + Flyers fans + Flyers style = you don't play hard you get booed/benched.

I always thought he had a lot of potential which was promptly wasted on the Rangers. Nothing says he can't get going with this team though. I guess we'll see how he works out. Maybe, like Emery, being out of the NHL a bit will help him step his game up.

Even with the Rags he put up 58 points. If the price is right, I'll take that.

I have faith in Laviolette to make any player work hard so normally I would like this signing if the money were cheap, but as it is I just hate it. We're going even further over the cap with this supposed signing and that means Gagne is likely done.

Summer of "no ****ing plan whatsoever" and "**** up what should have been the simplest off-season ever" continues.

EDIT: I'd much rather have Turco then Zherdev.

Exactly. They'll whip him into shape or he'll be long gone.

On the small bright side, if there's one organization that doesn't tend to tolerate laziness, it's probably us, I mean, if Zherdev starts slacking, Pronger is definitely going to get in his face about it.

Kinda agree.

I can only hope that if this is true, that it's on the cheap and we see a Zherdev that steps it up. I would seriously think Lavy wouldn't let him do otherwise....who knows. I mean, I can also see him end up getting scratched half way through the season for not giving 100%

I should add that this assures Gagne's ticket out of town which is the (very) sad part. I think we'll get rid of Gagne for a pick and sign Turco and Zherdev with his money.

Sad that it's come to treating franchise greats like that.

This signing gives me small hope that Holmgren does have some master plan. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop first. It makes it all the more likely that Gagne is gone now. I need to see the return we get, and if we can manage to get a goalie.

Snider could force Homer to waive him a la Nedved if he doesn't play with effort.

Sigh. I really wish we could've just gotten our goalie and a couple of depth defensemen and gone to war with nearly the same team as last year.
