Well, if he follows suit like he did in NY... he will try real hard for the first 1/3 of the season. He even was a backchecking fiend at times! Then, he proceeded to "lose confidence" and his play suffered.

Decent addition, though.

At this point, there is nothing the scapegoat can do to win over his detractors. A lot of fans don't see the issues with Jeff, but maybe that's because they're not looking for a forward to boo to go along with their d-man scapegoat (Carle) and their perennial favorite, the goalie. I dunno. I happen to like a guy that scores 30 - 40 times a season. I think games are won by goals scored, aren't they?

Yes, but goals are generated by skating. You ain't skating, you ain't scoring.

That being said, like before, I don't think Carter is lazy.

I don't care what anyone says the guy is by far the laziest player on this team. Don't get me wrong he's a good player..but if your paying 5 mil for him we should all see 100% effort at all times. As far as Zherdev..i don't really mind as long as Homer didn't put another retard offer together

He'll fall in perfectly with the predicted "epic breakdown" the Flyers will go through come December.

i just laughed when that happened. you could tell the way carcillo was targeting people that he was going to take out someone no matter what team.

Nothing.

Supposedly he wanted 3.5-4 million. A poster in here is saying he took less to sign here.

I could be completely wrong, but I'm thinking it will be 1-2 years for 3/year.

I might be alone, but I love this move if the contract is affordable (I'm thinking $2.5-3.25 range).

There wasn't a player available this off-season that has as much skill as Zherdev and would come anywhere near as cheaply as he likely will.

I know his history of laziness is a concern, but here are my reasons for optimism in that regard:

- Could perhaps be his last chance in the NHL

- Should really enjoy and thrive under Laviolette's up-tempo, aggressive system

- Will be on a team with another of veteran, extremely high character forwards (Pronger, Laperriere, O'Donnell) who will not enable him to play lazy hockey

I would REALLY like to see what he could do with someone like Giroux.

Agree with every point there. I think they'll put him with Richards though.

I'm about to go make an NHL10 team with our new team and include Zherdev and Turco

Then all those bonuses will roll over to next year since otherwise we'd go above the cap, so next year we'll be operating with a lower cap and having to sign Carter and Giroux.

It's a very Holmgren thing to do.
I don't believe you can add bonuses to a contract unless it's ELC or 35+ though, right? But Holmgren is probably thinking that anyway.

EDIT: No performance bonuses. So nothing for GP, GAA, sv%, etc. We can give him some for showing up...

I'm with you on this. I like having Zherdev but I am bit nervous to see the cap hit seeing what Homer did with Shelley. In addition, its kind of upsetting because Gagne is almost certain to be traded now.

Despite the fact that I'm not all that pleased with Homer this offseason, I commend him for not leaving any stones unturned when it comes to adding talent to the team.

This needs to be less than 3mil a year. If he signs for anywhere close to what gagne is making, this is just a horrible move.

If it's about 3 million and we trade Gagne for a pick, allowing space to get Powe and Asham or even Carcillo back, I'll be fine with this.

Issue is that I'm not taking the time to make all the other moves in the offseason...just the ones for the Flyers.

Not that impressive of a goal considering 4 of the players Hawks had on ice were rookies (Including Keith)

That 05-06 team was dreadful

That's what sucks about trading gagne. We could definitely get a decent return for him but given our awesome cap situation thats probably the best we will be able to get. (pick + $$). I'd like to see the guys you mentioned come back as well.

Frolov would have been a better signing

Zherdev was lazy and had lockerrom issues in Columbus ,,, Not sure how well he fit in while with Rangers but he was a questionable player in Columbus
