Can you imagine how good this team would look with Belanger (still unsigned) at 3rd line C instead of Shelley holding down the 13th F spot?

57.6 on FOs, decent defensively, can do pretty well offensively.

****, almost as frustrating as the goalie disaster.

Shelley's role is strictly as an enforcer -- he scored just two goals for the Rangers last season -- but Holmgren said his addition does not place Carcillo's roster spot in jeopardy.
so, looks like Carcillo may still have his spot on the team

3rd line, Carcillo-Giroux-JVR???

I believe this thread will need to be revisited more once a salary dump takes place. I have faith that Holmgren is still trying to acquire a legitimate starting goaltender, because despite what he says he really doesn't feel that comfortable coming into the season with MFL/Boosh. Possibly Bernier or Quick through a trade or possibly Nabby/Turco through free agency (if they are still around). As for scoring depth, I have a feeling that we can kiss one of Carter/Gagne goodbye. Defensively I think we can say farewell to Matt Carle / Meszaros (probably Carle).

The pieces coming back may be good prospects or decent rostered players with low salary impact. I have a feeling that our scoring depth chart will be altered and where some of us were comfortable with what we had in the playoffs. I have a feeling that we are going to have to see guys get called up from the Phantoms to be inserted into the lineup for cap reasons.

JVR - Richards - Giroux
Hartnell - Briere - Leino
Powe - Carter - Shelley
Carcillo - Betts - Lappy

If Gagne doesn't go anywhere, then he replaces Powe. I think Carter can score w/o a lot of other help and he makes that grouping dangerous, though I'd like to see someone who can get 15 g 25 a on that line. And I think Shelley replaces Asham.

If I am Holmgrem, I:

-Trade Simon Gagné and Matt Carle to L.A for Jonathan Bernier and David Drewiske.
Save more than 7M cap hit.

-Trade Jeff Carter to Anaheim for Bobby Ryan.
Cap hit will be almost the same after Ryan sign.

-Sign Kovalchuk 6yrs 50M$

Then:

Kovalchuk - Richards - Ryan
Hartnell - Brière - Leino
JVR - Giroux - Carcillo
Powe - Betts - Lappy
Shelley

Pronger - Meszaros
Coburn - Timonen
Drewiske - O'Donnell
Bartulis

Bernier
Leighton / Boucher

Easy to say, but I would really like that! And you?

If Zherdev signs for 3 or less and Turco for 1.5 we'd have about 1.7 to sign someone else (with no wiggle room).

I really like that lineup Quaker, if only the Flyers can manage to swing Turco.
Maybe this could work?
Carter-Richards-Zherdev
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
JVR-Giroux-Shelley
Lapperiere-Betts-Powe

Pronger-Carle
Timonen-Meszaros
Coburn-O'D

I think rolling this line-up could be nice, if the 2nd line hits a wall:
JVR-Richards-Briere
Hartnell-Carter-Powe
Leino-Giroux-Zherdev
Lapperiere-Betts-Shelley

PP1/2:
Briere-Carter-Richards/ JVR-Giroux-Zherdev
Pronger-Timonen/ Carle-Coburn

PK1/2/3:
Betts-Lapperiere/ Richards-Powe / Giroux-Carter -->Hartnell steps out of the box
Pronger-O'D/ Timonen-Coburn / Pronger-Carle

No idea. I think 1.5 for Nolan is acceptable. I like the proposed Gagne + Carcillo for Simmonds in the other thread.

Here is what we'd look like:

Zherdev (3) - Richards (5.75) - Simmonds (0.822)
Hartnell (4.2) - Briere (6.5) - Leino (0.8)
JVR (1.654) - Carter (5) - Giroux (0.822)
Lappy (1.167) - Betts (0.7) - Shelley (1.1)
Powe (1)

Pronger (4.921) - Carle (3.438)
Timonen (6.333) - Coburn (3.2)
Meszaros (4) - O'Donnell (1)
Bartulis (0.600)

Turco (1.55)
Leighton (1.55)

59.107 million

Cap is 59.4 so we have about 300K of wiggle room. Tight, but that is a DIRTY team.

Well taking into consideration that Shelley got 1.1, I think Powe may just want 1 mil.

Also, no one wants Turco...so yes, he'll be cheap.

And since Gagne didn't waive his NTC, here we go again:
Gagne (5.25) - Richards (5.75) - Zherdev (3)
Hartnell (4.2) - Briere (6.5) - Leino (0.8)
JVR (1.654) - Carter (5) - Giroux (0.822)
Lappy (1.167) - Betts (0.7) - Shelley (1.1)
Powe (1)

Pronger (4.921) - Carle (3.438)
Timonen (6.333) - Coburn (3.2)
Meszaros (4) - O'Donnell (1)
Bartulis (0.600)

Leighton (1.55)
Boucher (0.925)

62.91 million
=3.51 over

(63.535 million with Turco at 1.55 rather than Bouch)
