Pit - Cgy

To Cgy:
To Pit:
This proposed swap is a simple defence for offence prospect trade with a small pick exchange for balance. The Penguins desperately need more top 6 winger prospects, while the Flames could use another top 4 defense prospect to join Tim Erixon.

I guess you're under the impression that the Flames' depth chart is just swimming with top-6 forwards? Calgary has far less in that particular tank than even Pittsburgh does.

The Flames wouldn't be interested in a deal like this.

With Brodie, Negrin, Pelech, and Erixon coming through the system, the last thing we need is to trade what limited depth we have in a potential top six forward for another defensive prospect.

The Flames have trouble scoring so they should trade one of their best forward prospects? For ANOTHER defenseman no less.

Brilliant.

No.

If anything, the Flames should be trading defense prospects for forwards.

How much do you think Giordano would re-sign for? Staal + ? for Bourque/Giordano I think might be something to work off of.

With how Giordano played last year - if he keeps it up this season and reaches free agency, he'll be worth 4-5 million per. I wouldn't do Gio + Bork for Staal, unless that + from Pittsburgh is quite significant as Bourque == Staal at this point, as both PK extremely well, while Bourque has been given more of a chance offensively and has made use of that chance.

Understood. I knew Giordano panned out nicely but I wasn't sure how much.

The only thing the Flames can seem to draft well is defensemen (thanks to Tom Webster).

Nemisz is by no means a sure thing, but he is exactly the kind of prospect we need to have right now.

Staal's 7 years younger than Bourque though and doesn't have durability issues so while they're similar production wise and both excellent two way players Staal's value is more.

Potential is a big factor in assessing value, and Staal's 7 years younger. Not to mention his advantage defensively.

There's no way Pittsburgh would be adding anything. In fact, they wouldn't do it period - despite what the Staal dislikers think.

One only needs to be reminded of how many previous "quantity" deals involving older players many Pens fans would've jumped at a year ago that they wouldn't touch now to see why it's a bad idea to trade someone with Staal's age, pedigree, and resume.

There's no way Calgary takes yet another defenceman. They've got enough already.

I'm not sure Nemisz is top-6 material, but he's good enough I'd rather keep him around given how thin the Flames are in forward prospects.
