Simon Gagne to Rangers (if waived)

Rumors say that the Flyers may waive Gagne if a deal can't be made. His contract expires at the end of the season.

Would/should the Rangers pick his 1 year, $5.25M contract up for nothing from the Flyers to be the top line left wing? This would allow Dubinsky to play 2nd line center, or 2nd line wing, depending on the need.

Redden's only going to be demoted if we need the cap space, in my opinion. I think this would be a decent reason for the Rangers to demote Redden, fill in McDonagh in his spot (if he earns the spot) and have a better top-6 then what is currently penciled in.

Quickly Projected Lineup
1. Gagne - Christensen - Gaborik
2. Prospal - Dubinsky - Zuccarello Aasen or Prospal - Stepan - Dubinsky
3. Avery - Drury - Callahan
4. Prust - Anisimov - Boogaard

Rangers don't have anyone near first dibs on him if he hit waivers, he wouldn't last that long.

If the Oilers don't claim him, the Leafs will.

We wouldn't be able to get at the very least a pick or prospect out of a team, why? Gagne will not be waived.

Some NHL execs think Philly will place Gagne on waivers, if a trade isn't found very soon.

Why would his salary have any impact on his being waived or not?

I'm thinking about making a thread about the Flyers picking up Crosby if he gets waived...

If someone is picked up on waivers on the way down, the team takes his entire contract as is. You're confusing it with re-entry waivers.

Ahhh. Maybe so. But either way the Flyers aren't going to give him up for nothing.

You're probably right, but Dreger did bring up the possibility, which is why I speculated on whether the Rangers would make the move or not, that's all.

He's not going to be waived, if ANYTHING its just something like the Dan Boyle situation...but I really can't see the Flyers doing that to Gagne. He's been with the organization for way too long.

If he does get waived, there is no way in hell that he makes it to the Rangers.

I would lose a lot if not all respect for the Flyers organization if they pulled this off. Simon has been apart of this team for 10 years and was ONE OF IF NOT THE MAIN reason they made it to the finals.. and all of a sudden there's reports of him being placed on waivers if he doesnt waive his NTC? I call B.S Its just some reporter trying to make up another false Gagne rumour for the sake of trying to save their ass by falsely reporting he waved in the first place. But hey if its true why not throw Briere, Hartnell, Richards, Pronger and Kimmo on waivers too.. they all got NTC or NMC's. Truth is I dont think Simon is leaving Philly but if he does, it certianly won't be in the East let alone the same division.

I would hope that the Flyers front office would be smart enough to trade Carle or Hartnell or even flip Meszaros before letting Gagne go for nothing.

You may be right, but he is a 30 year old with a little bit of a recent injury history. It's not out of the realm of possibility.

I would be shocked if he got waived. If he did I would assume the Oil pick him up and try to trade him. If not, let him play and take them out of the lottery

Yes it is. The second team that would have dibs is Toronto. They would grab him without thinking twice.
