Flyers -- Ducks

Simone Gagne + James van Riemsdyk

for

Bobby Ryan

pretty self-explanatory why this makes sense, but if someone needs help figuring this out, let me know and I'll explain it to you.

Pass.

We project JVR to be a Ryan-esque player someday.
This also doesnt solve any salary issues, as JVR's ELC is something
we count on for our depth.

The Flyers are trading Gagne because they don't have cap space. This doesn't solve that problem.

We dont want Ryan that bad.

JVR is on an ELC, he is valuable for us. If Gagne plays a full season, his production should be around the same as Ryan. For a contender, we dont really gain anything out of this even if Ryan is the best player in the deal.

We're not in a position to deal two assets for one and keep the same cap hit. That would be more irresponsible than anything Homer has done to date.

Considering the Flyers' cap situation, they need to hold onto JVR. I'd love to have Ryan but it's not in the Flyers' cards to be dealing out ELCs.

Oh, please, do tell me why Philly who are looking to trade Gagne for salary reasons would trade for Bobby Ryan, a player who is looking for a big pay day, and also JvR who is on an ELC (as in not a lot of money). I'd LOVE to hear why this makes sense.

Makes even less sense for Anaheim. Trade Ryan for yet another winger who'll make more than him and then leave after one season and a sophomore who hopes to end up like Ryan. Ducks don't touch this one at all.

If Gagne waives his NTC to play for Anaheim, he will definitely re-sign with you guys. He's not going to waive his NTC for a team he would only play for one year.

But regardless, the deal makes sense for neither team.

Gagne will not make more than him next year, nor will Gagne make more than him in the future. So that was wrong.

Gagne, if we waives his NTC, will be going to a team that he actually wants to, so it's likely that he'll end up staying there. So that was wrong too.

As far as JVR is concerned, he's ahead of schedule, and he's a very similar player to Ryan. Their skill-sets are almost identical. You're right though, but it's not like JVR is a bad player to acquire.

That said, Flyers can't do this deal. I don't think it makes much sense either. Carter for Ryan? Yeah, that makes sense. Maybe even Carter + Carle for Ryan + 3rd because we have to dump salary. Other than that, nothing really makes sense with Anaheim from a Philly POV that's remotely realistic for Anaheim.

You're wrong. Ryan has said he won't be looking for more than Getzlaf and Perry who have 5.325M cap hit. Gagne's cap hit and actual salary are 5.25M per year so you can't claim Gagne won't make more money than Ryan next year.

Since you can't be certain that Gagne re-signs, you can't say that was wrong.

Where do you see logic in a player waiving his NTC to go to a team he doesn't wanna stay with? Sure you can't be CERTAIN, but you can't be certain of ANYTHING so there's no point in making your argument.

Neither of these players are a top caliber defensemen so this trade makes no sense for Anaheim.

My point was that he shouldn't be telling anyone they're wrong when he can't possibly know what Gagne would do if he waived his NTC.

Anyway, according to Dreger Gagne might be waived soon.

Well I think Chris means next year as in the '11-'12 season where Gagne hits UFA and takes a paycut.

Ryan would be making $5+ and Gagne will be looking at ~$4.

So filling the offensive void for Anaheim that Ryan leaves behind is of no interest either?

And Pepper.... Simon Gagne WILL NOT be waived.

The Flyers need scoring wingers, so we trade two of those for one back?

This well never happen with the cap and such the way it is.And I think both teams would pass. But from my standpoint. If Luca Sbisa were added to the mix I would pull the trigger on this deal. JVR is really going to have a big year in order to prove to me that he is ahead of schedule and I hope he does but I would move him for Bobby. Bobby's game has more grit to it right now and gets his fair of dirty goals. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Even if you add Spisa I still have to think about it.
If I had the assurance that Zherdev was 100% ours, I'd probably pull the trigger.

Ducks wouldn't do this trade even if it was Ryan for Gagne + JVR.

Adding Sbisa is just silly.

The Ducks haven't been able to sign him, right? Many NHL execs have said they believe Ryan will just be waived at this point.
