You've probably come the closest so far. Having seen a LOT of Ellis, he's not one of those guys who has that "thing" that makes him like a Pronger, or like a Lidstrom, or like a Niedermayer, or whatever. Everything he does is just plain good and steady... like 50% of any league. If you break down the player that is Ellis into its "major parts", it's really hard to find just a couple guys that he reminds you of the most. Rivet is quite off, imo. Phillips is even further off. What he is cultivating though, along with his all-round abilities, is his leadership role. And that's why I say that you've come the closest with the Gorges comparison.
Good character guy, might be a guy who is looked to for leadership (even if only by example as a quietly steady and unflappable guy) in the future. Not flashy, spectacular, or even really really good at anything, but solid in all departments... like Gorges, yet still quite different.
