Glad to see Girardi will remain in NY for another 4 seasons. Nice to see one of our homegrown RFA treated fairly by Tomato Face.

Hope he does the same with Staal.

edit:

what is everyone complaining about? There is absolutely nothing wrong with that deal. Its more than fair both ways. It also shows Girardi wants to be a Ranger by accepting a 4 year deal at that dollar amount. That's 3 years into UFA eligibility.

Good for Girardi, good for Rangers.

Waiting for terms, but since this didnt go to arbitration im expecting a fair contract for both parties.

I just want to remind everyone that terms have not been officially announced. The number thrown out in this thread is a rumor from an unconfirmed source. Proceed with caution.

Its a fair deal, considering it is 3/4ths a UFA contract during the absolute prime of his career.
Market value, a little better than that considering his role on this team. Im glad Dan is back in blue, regardless.

That only means something if the player is actually a good player.

3.325?

Eh, about were I thought he would be. A tad higher than we'd like but its a fair market price. Nothing overdone about this. The guys gotta get paid sooner or later.

4 years is perfect length.

Congrats G-man. Now go out and have a good bounceback season, last year was Meh.

I take it you believe this not to be the case regarding Girardi?

Girardi is a good player and one of the better Ranger development stories.

He needs to be more consistant in all areas of his game. I'm hopeful that will happen as he enters his prime.

I'm glad this got done.

Not sure if your referring to my post or not. But I just named the first to FA that came to mind. I'm not implying that he is in negotiations with them by any means.

I don't think it even deserves a nod. Yes, I'm pro-Kovy, but I wasn't trying to insinuate anything at all. Again, I just named the first two FAs that came to mind.

"The 26-year old blueliner led the team and ranked sixth in the NHL with 180 blocked shots, tied for second on the Rangers with 178 hits, ranked second in average icetime (21:29) and third with a plus-nine rating at home."

That is weak-sauce holmes... Yeah, let's point out about the only negative thing we can about Dan. That issue has been addressed, and even Torts admitted he did not have his players on the same page. Girardi will never have the same issue, and it was more indicative of Torts Bench-Boss mentality IMO

Not sure I trust the source but it would not be the worst contract.

Now sign Staal to a 5 year 22.5 million dollar deal and head to camp.

I should say... for the record, that while I like the deal, by the final year if our D pans out Dan may be the odd man out and may be traded? /- Due to the abundance of dmen with higher upsides.

On a more positive note, not signing him would have been disasterous.

People *****ing about this need to keep in mind, we bought some of his UFA years so of course the cap hit is going to be higher.

You really feel that way? Yeah, Staal will get more, as he should. But let's not lose sight of what Girardi is. A top pairing Dman, entering his prime, who has not missed a game in 3 seasons, is defensively sound and a very solid all around player. What would you expect a player like that to cost entering UFA? 5+ Martin, Volchenkov, Hamhuis all got at least that. He is in the middle of that pack. I also am happy with the length...
