Girardi is a versatile Dman who can play top minutes on a team like this who needs them filled, or a reduced role on a team with a better D corps (hopefully the future)... good resigning.
You really feel that way? Yeah, Staal will get more, as he should. But let's not lose sight of what Girardi is. A top pairing Dman, entering his prime, who has not missed a game in 3 seasons, is defensively sound and a very solid all around player. What would you expect a player like that to cost entering UFA? 5+ Martin, Volchenkov, Hamhuis all got at least that. He is in the middle of that pack. I also am happy with the length...
EDIT: I know Girardi was not UFA, just using that as an example, considering.
Rangers bought 3 yrs of Girardi UFA. Looking to buy at least 2 from Staal.
Think that would mean that they want AT LEAST a 4-year deal for him. Staal being 24 and 3 years of experience would dictate that at 26 he'd be a UFA, no?
3.325 is pretty fair. I was guessing he would get around 3 so it's not too bad. A little bit more for taking some of his ufa years and it's really pretty fair.
Buys out 3 UFA years so your not going to get any dollar amount under $3 million. I was hopeing for 4 years at $3.25 million. Only $100K more. Fair deal.
Girardi better get more than 30 points for that deal. ugh
He probably will get around that but it has nothing to do with that.
This is a defensively sound player, he's not the greatest, but he gets the job done. We bought 3-years of UFA in which he assuredly would of received that price or more on the open market. Probably took a slight discount to stay with his team.
What are you all expecting? It's just nonsense how the majority of you aren't thinking with realism and knowing the conditions in which these players play in, when it's time to pay up, you have to. And after this contract, if he exceeds expectations even slightly, he will be due for his real pay day come 30 years old.
Too much length. Too much money. Really? Don't make me laugh. Of course, Staal is getting more money considering the Rangers offered 4 years/$14 million to Staal"s agent but he wants between $3.5-$4 million. The Girardi contract was rumored to be 4 years between $3.25-$3.5 miilion. It was in Tuesdays NY Post. My number for Girardi was $13 million for 4 years. Close enough. Very good deal for the Rangers.

I will only be happy if Redden is sent to HFD after camp... only because Cally and Dubi will get big raises (although Dubi might be traded since he held out last year, IMO).

Well, yeah. I think everyone would be happy to see that bum and his $6.5 million dollar cap hit head to Hartford. But that's an entirely different story.
Just because Sather **** the bill with players like Gomez (no longer a problem here), Redden, Drury, Rozsival, etc. doesn't mean that the up-and-coming players have to get shortchanged to accommodate the loss.

good deal.............Staal will get like 4.5 now no?

I get Dubi if he continues to improve but We havent really seen anything from Cally since his last contract that justifies anything higher, have we? 20 goal upside 3rd line RFA, should be 2.5-3 mil at the most.
I think he stays at mid 2 mil, or whatever his QO is.
That is weak-sauce holmes... Yeah, let's point out about the only negative thing we can about Dan. That issue has been addressed, and even Torts admitted he did not have his players on the same page. Girardi will never have the same issue, and it was more indicative of Torts Bench-Boss mentality IMO
It's the first thing that came to mind when I saw him standing up for Anisimov in the video; the irony of it. I can't argue with the rest of your post.
what is everyone complaining about? There is absolutely nothing wrong with that deal. Its more than fair both ways. It also shows Girardi wants to be a Ranger by accepting a 4 year deal at that dollar amount. That's 3 years into UFA eligibility.
This. It might be a 1m overpayment the first year but Certainly pays itself back by the 2nd,3rd and 4th year....
Plus, he can only get better. Who knows what he is going to look like in a few years! Imagine if he fixed his backwards skatings
Girardi has yet to play at least 3/4 of a season of good hockey. In each of the last three years, he either had a great first half and crappy 2nd half, or the other way around.
No way this contract is more than two or three years. It solidifes the group, and I guess I can deal with another year or two of Girardi, but he isnt deserving of a whole lot of money.
"The 26-year old blueliner led the team and ranked sixth in the NHL with 180 blocked shots, tied for second on the Rangers with 178 hits, ranked second in average icetime (21:29) and third with a plus-nine rating at home."
Girardi is seriously under-appreciated around here.
