Not a big fan of Eminger but can't say I dislike the deal.

Doubt this is leading to anything bigger.

It gets us rid of dead weight Voros while getting a serviceable 7th d-man.

Sather is in the market for a veteran free-agent defenseman who would serve as the team's sixth or seventh, depending upon training camp evaluations and roster moves.

Sather got what he was looking for.

I'm not going to drown my sorrows with a bottle of Canadian Club, but yeah, I'll miss him kinda. I think Voros had a little underdog charm. He had passion and always gave effort on the ice, which can't be easy when you spend most of the year in a suit.

He definitely produced way more PIMs than points this last season especially, but it was hard not to root for him when he'd somehow win/tie a fight here or there.

I guess it depends on if a kid cant make the jump yet or not.
Whose to say Gilroy even starts the season with the big club? He was downright bad last season, especially in the second half...and worst of all, it was a strength issue which is something thats very difficult to fix at age 26. In fact, I'd say its more likely McDonagh gets a spot than Gilroy.

If the Rangers arent going to do anything big (Kovalchuk-related), then I dont see the point of burying Redden at this time. Despite what others say and salary aside, he's still a better option than anyone else vying for the #6 spot at this time....and do we really want Sather sitting on so much cap space if hes deleted? I dont unless a no-brainer talent like Kovalchuk is coming back.

Eminger is soft as they come. He has some offensive upside and is fine as a #7 for a year. He is not worse than Redden. Really not a big deal. Voros was already waived through the league and would have ended up in Hartford anyway.

Yeah he did something over Memorial day weekend, that was all the week before if I remember correctly. I just remember Avery tweeting something like, Voros deletes twitter after weekend binge.

There's no way Voros got traded because of his Twitter account right?....right?

Anyways, if it means the end of Redden then hell to the yeah, if it doesn't then well it kind of sucks. People seem to forget that when Voros was out on the ice last season he seemed to be one of a few that looked like he actually gave a ****. Hopefully the mentality on this team is different next season.

Eminger is under rated, i guess this means they aren't going to re-sign Errikson. One less forward to deal with i guess. So Long Arron, may be in 15 years MSG will give you a half hour special about the 10 greatest games ever played by a Ranger, followed by 154 bad ones, benchings & scratchs.

Hartford's D is pretty thin if McD makes the team and Redden isn't sent down, right?

Baldwin/Williams/Niemi/Kundratek?

Is this the same Eminger who was with the Yotes a few seasons back?

If so this is a very minor move.......I would have rather brought Erikson back to be #7.

This is good no matter how you cut it, if you couldnt get rid of the salary at least:

Voros is gone
You dont give up a pick
You get a NHL ready defenseman
Cap stays the relatively the same
Another defenseman in camp to compete against / push out Redden

The last being the major plus. The more defenseman vying for a spot in camp not named Redden the better.

“We liked Aaron’s attitude, he was a good team guy,” Rangers GM Glen Sather said. “But with some of the acquisitions we made, he just didn’t figure into it going forward. It’s another opportunity for Aaron to get another contract.

“Our philsophy is with any young guy that comes in and makes the team, we can move the older guys out if necessary,” Sather added when asked about the defense corps. “We’re not going to force feed any of these guys. We might have pushed (Matt) Gilroy too hard. We don’t want to hurt anybody’s confidence.”
http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/r...s_for_eminger/

If you look at the math, sending Redden to the AHL elevates the Rangers cap issues. Fitting in everyone including the bonuses.
