Offensively, he probably is pretty dang close to Gagne's talent level. I'd take Gagne 10 times out of 10 over Zherdev of course, but he has the ability to replace Gagne's offensive production for a cheaper price if we do indeed trade Simon. I still hope that doesn't happen though. Trade Carle, Homer! Please!
I'm not at a computer, does that keep us under the cap? If it does that's a sick mf'n lineup. Even better if we can fetch a high 2nd for carle. Let boosh walk and superstar is cut.
Darren Dreger is a notch up from Eklund in my books. That puts him at notch 1. TSN is trying to compete with the Bloggers, I don't know what is real and what is BS anymore. It would be nice to have a legitimate source to rely on. It seems everyone is reporting anything they hear these days.
No...he's bang on. If Zherdev is motivated and plays to his ability he'll explode on this team. The stretch passes and room that some of our guys get would have been a dream for Zherdev on the Jackets or Rags. If we get a happy Zherdev, I'll be a happy camper.
Good signing, but hopefully not for too much. I would seriously love to trade Carle, Shelley and Boucher for even just picks and maybe sign Turco for cheap. Pretty much what CannonGoBoom said.
to LA: Carle, DenverBoone, Shelley, Boucher, 2nd in 2021
to Phi: Quick
Sadly, LA is probably the 2nd most stacked defense probably right now, or at least their pool is. They have the scariest group of young d-men probably in all the league.
I've watched Zherdev a lot, and I've never seen anything that put's him on Gagne's level. Just because he is Russian doesn't make him the next Mogilny.
If by talent, we are referring to the ability to do things that can't be taught, then there is no doubt that Zherdev has more talent. I agree that he is not, at present, a better player than Simon though.

I never said he was. But offensively he is miles ahead of Gagne at this point in his career. Defensively, its still uncertain, but I think Gagne edges him out. If he actually plays to his capabilities, and for wahtever his price tag is, you wont be disappointed.

Simon Gagne put up 33-33-66 when he was 21.
Zherdev put up 27-27-54 when he was 21.
They both had disappointing 22 y/o seasons, but Gagne put up 5 less points in 25 less games. The following year Gagne was playing a checking role for the club, and then came back and put up 47 goals after the lockout.
I'm sorry, but please put away the Russophile glasses for a moment, and live with us here in reality.
Oh, and I completely whiffed on the "Defensively, its still uncertain, but I think Gagne edges him out." HAHAHAHAHAHA.... HA...haaa....ha.

gagne on an average season will score 30 goals....zherdev has never done that
i agree that he has better hands/skills, but miles ahead?? thats an absurd statement

And look at the teams Gagne played on and look at the teams Zherdev played on. Columbus was horrible.

IF he plays to his abilities on the top line. His motivation is the key factor. He wont produce anything if he doesnt get his head outta his @ss, but if he does, then you will grow to like him.

17, 41, 31, 27, 38, 40, 33.... what are those numbers? Rick Nash's goal totals.
If Zherdev was "miles" ahead of Gagne, then it wouldn't be a factor. You can get your numbers playing for bad teams. Zherdev is a better stickhandler than Gagne, but he has not displayed better offensive talent at any point in his career than Gagne has shown.
