I never said he wasn't good, I was disputing that he is better then Parise for what each of their roles are. There is no way you would have to give him a prospect and a pick to get weber. 17th in points among d-men isn't all that great. Sure 2nd in goals is nice but it shows he isn't assisting much if he drops 15 places after that. Ok you could argue they team doesn't score much but you think NJ is an offensive powerhouse? Not at all and Parise is out there with Zajac and Langenbrunner who are both lucky if they crack 20 goals.

Weber is a big dude with a crazy shot but I don't think I would trade Parise for him. I think Zachs two way game is more valuable then Weber's 16 goals or whatever. Parise is such a good defensive forward that I think people forget about that aspect of his game just b/c he is a huge scorer too

You would take say Marleau(now) over a Lidstrom in his prime

Parise and Weber are intially fair value...but to get a #1dman you have to overpay

esp for one .....who could arguable be the best #1 dman in the league(remember which team he plays for and the exposure he gets.)...who can hit, score and play defence

Weber top 5 dman in the league? YES
Parise top 5 forward in the league? NO

It's almost dead even fair value for sure.

However:

1. New Jersey doesn't do this. They don't have enough forwards that they can afford to give up their only really young high quality guy up front.

2. Nashville I think would at least strongly consider this if they hadn't just made him their Captain. That team is a defense factory. They just keep developing great blueline players year after year.

3. I think because Weber is now the captain if they wanted a blockbuster like this it would be something like Suter + Erat or whatever for a top three forward from somewhere in the league. Something they'd only consider doing because like I said their a defense factory over there. Sooner or later some of these great blueline players will need to be used to acquire a forward. Then again that hasn't been the case so far and their always competitive.
