I would ecstatic if this didn't mean Gagne was gone. This is actually a very good deal. Imagine if Holmgren hadn't made all the other bad moves.

I'm curious, did Homer say, with his own mouth, that absolutely NO defensemen will be moved at ALL during the off-season?

Led the Ranngers in scoring and had the second best plus minus rating on the team.

Well, the next time he plays up to his abilities will be the first time.
Remember when talking Pycckku about Russian players:

Pycckuu is of russian decent so he over values and over rates russians.

However, Zherdev is better than Gagne skill wise, but Gagne is way more productive even with lower skill because he has better effort.

You sure? Not 27, doesn't have 7 years of service...

I just really hope we keep Gagne. ( I can deal with trading him for a goalie however.)

and re: Shelley, Im sure he is a good goon, and could be a fan favorite, but with a 1.1 salary and could be the cause of losing our longest current Flyer, he will be hated
Beg to differ. First guy he smokes the fans will go nuts.

I dont think Zherdev is better, offensively yes, but not all around. And im not debating who is better. I would much rather have Gagne and I dont like the thought of even putting Zherdev on this team.

I was NEVER of fan of bringing Zherdev here even when the rumors broke out.

And Zherdev is Ukrainian, not Russian.

Did Shooter get fired? He actually signed someone and didnt get ben toevr? color me impressed. This is a good deal no matter how you slice it. short term low salary. the reward is far > than the risk. Zherdev must have be desparate to come back. No problem with this deal at all. Finally a good solid move

I'm not a fan of Zherdev, but I will give credit where credit is due.

For the cap hit, this has the ability to work out fairly well for the Flyers. And, if that ends up being the case, then Homer deserves credit. I'm skeptical, but I will root for Z so long as he sports the Flyers logo.

We'll see how it all shakes out...

If Gagne goes, with Zherdev at this price, it's even more possible. I don't know if Carcillo is really coming back or not, either way I think we can fit either him or a guy like Nodl (although I'd prefer Shelley to be the 13th...)

A quick mock-up (don't worry about line combos for now, it'll hurt your head):

Well, I have no problems with russian hockey players (or any nationality). I have a problem with lazy players who don't know where the defensive zone is.

Zherdev has skills, that's undeniable. But yea, until he shows some kind of consistent effort, in all 3 zones, I'm not gonna be a big fan.

I'm willing to be open-minded about it, and I'm sure as **** gonna root for the guy, but yea, I'm skeptical about how much he can really help this team, regardless of stats or cap hits.

You are the one that broke the news. Bravo. You even beat the beat writers by miles.

My opinion of a $2mil price tag is whoohoo. Lets see what happens next.

Like him or hate him at 2 mil foe 1 year, this is an amazing deal! This is another 20+ goal scorer. With Richie, his liabilities might not be as obvious. Very excited about this move. I am very convinced that somehow Turco is a flyer very soon

Rough math here, but I think this team can put up 300 goals next season:

1st Line LW - 20
Richie - 30
Zherdev - 30
Hartnell - 25
Briere - 30
Leino - 25
JvR - 20
Carter - 35
Giroux - 30
Betts - 10
Powe (crossing my fingers) - 10
Lappy - 5

Defense - 40

That would be great.

First off, Powe wont come close to 10 goals. Lappy will outscore Betts but neither will reach 10, Lappy has a good possibility though.

Wouldn't he had signed an entry level deal though? Would that make him an RFA?

He was an undrafted player I believe and signed a FA contract. Any young nondrafted player is considered a FA, but still goes by RFA status by all the same rules as everyone else.

And in any event check the arbitration hearings . . . he's one of them.

Wheeler was drafted by Phoenix and they didn't sign him in time so he became a UFA. I'm pretty sure the prerequisites for being a UFA are either 27 y/o or 7 years of service, neither of which Zherdev will have at the end of this year. I'm wondering if there are any flyers fans on this board who know the CBA well enough to be certain though

I think the lockout counted as a year of service for players who played the previous year so next year would be Zherdev's 7th season, making him a UFA.

More realistic:

Richards - 30
Carter - 40
Briere - 30
Hartnell - 25
Giroux - 25
vanRiemsdyk - 20
Zherdev - 25
Leino - 20

Laperriere - 5
Powe - 5

Pronger - 10
Carle - 5
Timonen - 10
Coburn - 5
Meszaros - 5
O'Donnell - 0

265 goals + whatever the LW we have scores
