TC_Carling

Tanner Glass has agreed on a new contract today.

Canucks are roughly 300k over the cap now

Not really. The team is allowed to exceed the cap by, what, 10%, during the off-season?

No need to worry. The ownership can easily send people down to the farm once the season starts. It's the other teams that should be desperate given the lack of quality defencemen available.

We have until the last day of training camp. We could sign Raymond and Hansen and not have to move Bieksa, at least until the end of training camp. Don't see Gillis waiting that long of course.

Even though there is no need to do it immediately, I want to see the inevitable Bieksa deal happen just so I can have a better idea what our roster is gonna look like.

That and so we can stop talking about trading Ehrhoff.

How are we officially over the cap though? Is that just with the assumption of raymond? Or is it actually "official"

Yes, per the CBA at Article 50.5(c)(ii)(B):
Quote:
Nevertheless, in order to ensure that Clubs may have sufficient time and flexibility to plan their rosters during the off-season, the Upper Limit shall be temporarily raised by ten (10) percent to permit Clubs additional flexibility with their Averaged Club Salaries during the period from July 1 until and including the last day of Training Camp. On the day following the last day of Training Camp, the Upper Limit shall again be lowered to the level as calculated in Section 50.5(b), and all Clubs must once again be in compliance with the Upper Limit from the day following the last day of Training Camp until and including June 30.

so does that mean we have to trade Bieksa or another $3.5 million player for picks and minor league prospects in order to create room for Raymond plus tiny cushion, assuming arbitration will award Raymond $2.5 - $3 million

Yeah, but 510K is allotted to Perrault, who was a AHL callup for the Coyotes for the past 2 seasons. He has played 9 NHL games in the past 2 seasons.

It means nothing at all,The canucks dont have to be at the cap intill sept 30th i belive.Gillis did say that he was in no hurry so i guess he wont get rid of Bieska intil septish...if it is bieska to go anyways, sure hope it is.( not that hes not a real good player, but a huge price tag for something we already have)

We have a bunch of contracts like Perrault, Alberts, Hordichuk/Rypien/Glass who won't end up on the roster and therefore won't count towards the cap.

Bieksa, Kevin: $3,750,000
Alberts, Andrew: $1,050,000

Total savings: $4,800,000

So in reality, we have somewhere around $3 (if we take some salary back) - 4.5 (if we dump for picks) mil in cap space assuming Bieksa and Alberts or O'Brien get moved for whatever.

Actually its a lot less, Mason Raymond and Hansen still have to be signed.

I'm assuming Canucks will trade Bieksa for a 3rd line forward making under 2 million and a draft pick.
