He hates Gagne for no reason. Calls him a 20-25 goal scorer when he scored 34 in the 08-09 season and was scoring at a 36 goal pace in the playoffs....

If we need to get another Russian to make Zherdev happy (I'm referring to the article linked above), what about Afinogenov? Lotta people complained about him this time last year, but he put up 60 points in Atlanta. Not too shabby.

Do we really have room for more forwards?

I think it's more impressive that Gags managed to put up 41 goals during "that" season, and was a +2 on a team that allowed over 300 goals.

It could be a decent fit if Gagne is moved, although I doubt all of a sudden the Flyer's would take two Russians on the team. Someone like Guerin could be of interest. Zherdev for 2 and Afinogenov/Guerin for 1.5.

If we add Zherdev AND Afinogenov, I will definitely throw up in my mouth a little.

C'mon people, this isn't fantasy hockey. Despite those 60 points, Atlanta doesn't want Afinogenov back. Ever wonder why?

Otherwise I have no idea whats up now.

Trade Carle and Carcillo. Sign Powe. Call it an offseason.

Well even without Cote and Bartulis the team is still about $300,000 over the cap, so we have to get rid of someone. I'd rather it be someone else but, oh well.

edit: I hope Zherdev is somehow able to avoid the laziness problems he had with NYR.

I just really hope we keep Gagne. ( I can deal with trading him for a goalie however.)

and re: Shelley, Im sure he is a good goon, and could be a fan favorite, but with a 1.1 salary and could be the cause of losing our longest current Flyer, he will be hated
My sentiments exactly. This is a very nice contract. He is without a doubt worth $2 million. What I completely disagree with is not doing some of this before we signed friggin' Shelley. Now, as a result of poor management, we may have to sacrifice someone crucial like Gagne.

Zherdev for 2M a year is a good price. I do not give a **** what anyone says.

Now, I do not really want to lose Gagne. Trade Carle, trade Carcillo, waive Cote and Boucher and sign Turco and Morrisson.

Gagne Richards Zherdev
Hartnell Briere Lieno
JVR Carter Giroux
Shelley Betts Lappy

Pronger Meszaros
Timonen Coburn
O'Donnell Morrisson

Turco
Leighton (overpaid ****er)

And no, Toronto has zero chance of poaching either. Just thought I'd go and cut that weed before it has a chance to grow.

Now why would we do that? You know Holmgren doesn't like things that make sense.

its probably gonna be closer to "waive gagne, forget you have cote, hide from furious fans." this is how much faith i have in homer right now.

Toughness and $4 will get you a cup of coffee while waiting for golf times in April

Shelley is useless. Stop cluttering all these threads telling us how awesome he is.

We might see a Gagne + 2nd (whatever year we have next) for a 5th rounder.

I'm curious, do you think Homer will budge at ALL on getting rid of a defenseman over getting rid of Gagne? He wants 5 top 4 d-men, and is that really necessary? Not really. Detroit won in 2008 with 3 top 4 d-men, mainly because the other guys were stay-at-home well enough that they didn't need that ****. Seriously are you afraid of a line like this if Carle is gone:

Pronger-Meszaros
Timonen-Coburn
O'Donnell-Bartulis

Do you think this will be worse than before? We had Krajicek and Parent as our 3rd pairing, this 3rd pairing is by far and away better.

I think we still would be over cap.

I do not know, I am just very upset to see that all time Flyer Gagne a player that most fans in the NHL like can be traded for some clown we've never heard of.

You sure you don't want Kaber...? No?
Heh, yeah I know, we can only dream about having Giroux and JVR.

Who's contracts are gonna be up at the end of next year to enable you to sign them? I know about Gagne, who else? Though Gagne's 5 mill should be enough space for Giroux.

Are they RFA's or UFA's?

Anyone think they may sometimes dress 5 defensemen and 13 forwards? That way they can role an effective 4th line. I highly doubt it, but its a thought. They have 5 defensmen that can play 24+ minutes.

If Meszaros has a good year as expected, we may be able to move him for Vokoun at the deadline. Although the cap probably won't works as things are now.

No, I think Shelley will just dress <30 games, so they can roll an effective 4th line.
