Value wise...

Brown>Carter. Why? Because Carter is a UFA next season and Brown will be around for 4 more seasons as a captain and a hit of JUST 3mil.
Skill to skill can be argued all day long because it is just that close, but the contacts are years away.

Hartnel vs. Quick? I don't know... Goalies seem prety effin important in this game, so that is a great arguement as well....but a starting goalie at 1.8 mil for three years is a pretty sweet deal.

The point is, the value is closer to even than you would like to admit.

Now...

Brown/Quick
for
Richards?
Carter is RFA next season, and his value is clearly higher than Brown's. It just doesn't make sense for L.A. to trade their captain. And Brown+Quick for Mike Richards is silly.

Please...by all means... break down how this is a fair value.

Well, that is handsome return, but Carter would be worth two 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd on an offer sheet next year.

Brown is not as valuable as Carter.

Quick is just an above-average goalie; nothing special. His value is his contract.

The 1st/Teubert is an unproven prospect.

Yes, Carter is > Brown but I wouldn't say that Hartnell is > Quick. I think they're about equal value.

However, you have to factor in their contracts/salaries.

LA would be adding 9.2M and that's with both Hartnell and Carter both being FAs, in 2011.

PHIL would be adding 5M and Brown and Quick both have several more years left on their contracts.

So, if you factor in all that, yeah, that's pretty fair trade imo.

To Kings

Carter
Hartnell
Boucher/Leighton (if wanted)
rights to carcillo (if wanted)

To Flyers

Brown
JJ
Quick (if the kings want to give the job to bernier)

Carter gives you a 40 goal scoring center to make up for production you could have got from kovy.

Hartnell adds some grit and another 20-25 goals (similar to browns output)

Brown gives the flyers a much needed right wing and cap relief. Zherdev (if it happens) could make up for some of carters goals.

the flyers can then turn coburn or carle for another supporting winger
Flyers say no

IF Gagne goes, I'd say it would have to be Quick+.

They aren't going to deal Quick.

I'll take a first and a prospect of the non blue chip variety.

Ill take Brown over Carter any day of the week. Brown is Richards 2.0 with better hitting abilities and isn't afraid of the corners and plays a 2 way game. Id do this trade in a heartbeat.

I agree with your avatar. I also think Green should not even have been nominated, Pronger should have been. They really need to make 2 different D awards for offensive D and defensive.

Carter will be a RFA, huge difference.
And Brown's cap hit is 3.1mil.

No, you really can't.
Everyone who says Dustin Brown is a better player than Jeff Carter is blinded by the hitting and his cute little speech defect.
I really like Brown and would absolutely love him on the Flyers, but Jeff Carter is a better offensive and defensive player.

Yeah, a starting goalie at 1.8mil is a pretty sweet deal, that's why all those goalies this year are signed for those huge multi-year deals with a cap hit above 4mil.
I got news for you: the goalie market is a complete buyers market.
When was the last time a goalie has gotten anything of real value?
If you're done searching for this goalie, then please compare him to Jonathan Quick in terms of how proven he was.
Thanks.
