Ward is a nice 3rd liner fill in, but he's already old with only a year left on his contract. The 3rd is fairly useless to us as well.
This deal is basically one year of Gagne for Zach Budish because Gagne won't stay in Nashville. I don't think he'd waive to go there so it's a non-issue, but this deal is a lowball one for sure.

You get to choose between one year of Gagne and one year of Ward on your team. Who do you take next year and only next year?
Who says Nashville can't re-sign Ward? We all know the Flyers can't re-sign Gagne much less even keep his cap hit for the coming season. That makes him a rapidly depreciating asset for the Flyers.

Actually, we could keep Gagne long-term if we moved Hartnell. For some idiotic reason, Holmgren doesn't feel that we should go in that direction. Whatever, it's his call.
Even so, there is no planet where Ward is more valuable than Gagne. I understand the re-signing him bit, but this has got to be a joke. I feel like I've stumbled into a different dimension.
Say you had the same ability to re-sign Gagne as you do Ward, would you not trade Ward for freaking Simon Gagne?

Because Hartnell had a great cup round, which Gagne didnt, Gagne will be out of a contract at years end, Hartnell wont, Gags makes 1 mil more, we need the space for Leino and Giroux next year and Hartnell is rarely injured, at least he hasnt been since joining the team. That would be your answer sir.
But anyway Ward straight up for Gagne is silly, same age Gags puts up more everything, but what makes the deal work is the prospect and the pick that is in the package, as well as the cap help.

Pretty sure that's not the answer.
Everyone is saying Gagne will get pennies in a trade, but I just dont think that's true. If Holmgren was content with getting pennies in a trade, he would be dealing Hartnell, not Gagne. So that leads me to believe Gagne is being traded for something that Hartnell would not be able to get. I'm starting to think the return may be pretty solid for Gagne, otherwise, Hartnell would be out the door.
That makes no sense, and I hate Hartnell. Hartnell is younger and has no injury history, that is why he would not be traded over Gags. In all honesty I would love for them to trade Gags, Hartnell, Carter and Coburn so I would have no one to ***** about on the team. And if Gags was such a hot commodity he would have been traded by now.

It actually makes a lot of sense. Gagne has much more value to this team, there is no doubt about that.
And I'm not sure you realize how much this damn Kovalchuk saga is holding up every other move in the NHL. Whatever team may be pursuing Gagne may want Kovy more. If they dont get Kovy, then they have a deal in place for another scoring winger.

I pray you are right, I would really like Simmonds for his 2 way ability, his checking and his cap friendly contract, granted he will need to be resigned next season, but that would be a fine trade for me.

I'd be alright with Simmonds also, but that is a horse that has already beaten to death

The only reason I want Simmonds now is to make LA fans stop hyping him up, not because he's anything really special.
Nashville is not interested in scoring goals... ever. Apparantely that franchise is happy with their current situation and has no interest in trading any of their abundance of d prospects or checkers at any time for scoring help. The rest of us might not understand it, but we have to accept it, because we're all just banging our heads against the wall if we don't.
This will end well. I wouldn't trade Ward straight up for Gagne.
Biggzy was the first post in a Flyers proposal, talking about how much better everyone else's players are than ours. This is weird, I can't say I saw that coming .
I wouldn't trade Budish at this point. He's a big kid with a ton of potential. Nashville needs guys up front with size and skill and to give it up for Gagne for one year is not the way to build a successful team that has a budget.
