"July 1st is our draft day"

For all the talk Brian Burke was doing to deflect attention from day one of the draft and how july 1 was their draft day, not much has been done. They signed Armstrong, a 30-40 point winger and that's it. Their forward depth looks unimpressive. Is Burke done or was this just hot air from him again?

i dont think he's done, i dont see many (if any) FA signings happening bottom 6 looks about set and no impact players to grab this summer (that are realisitc)
however he will make a trade or 2 before camp to improve the top 6

but theres NO action with any team period so it isnt really thread worthy

For all the hype about Burke he is just another GM. He can't magically force trades to happen or get the best player for peanuts in free agency. He will be aggressive and that has its ups and downs(and risks) like Kessel, etc.

well, frolov is still available, and if i were burke i would try to get him and another top 6er if possible to make boston's pick bad and then i would get more young players. IMO he's dug himself quite the hole with the kessel trade as far as re-building goes. but who knows? maybe the leafs overacheive and they make the playoffs this year.

Not a Burke guy at all...but I don't have an issue with his assertion. He said what he felt needed to be said in a hockey crazy city. If Nything I'd be thrilled that he didn't do something dumb like overpaying for a guy like Torres.

This is the wrong thread to make on a weekend, as the weekends do look slow around the league at this point, especially those of Burke. He must not have worn socks on draft day.

so far it's armstrong , versteeg , lebda and has yet to trade kaberle and i'm sure he has other offers involving other players so before we say good job/bad job to burke lets see how this team looks in six weeks.

Nash signed a year ago. Burke was saying this around a month ago.

The leafs need to trade a defenseman. For cheap. To Columbus.

I don't see why he doesn't offer Frolov 1yr 6m or something. Leafs get a 1st line winger, Frolov gets a chance at a bigger payday with inflated stats (since the Leafs offense is basically Kessel, Versteeg and Frolov)

Brain Burke blowing a lot of hot air? Trying to steal the spot light? Trying to get the media to not focus on Boston picking 2nd and 32nd overall?... Nahhhh, can't be true.

All that said, I love Burke. I think he's a great GM and I like the moves he's made in Toronto. His hands were rather tied when he came on board, and I like the team he's putting together.

I thought the Leafs draft this year was great, considering no first rounder. Where's the beef?

ok lets see what seguin does, if he puts up more points then kessel, so be it, but he still hasnt proven to score 2 consecutive 30 + goal seasons, one being without any set up man.. hes set with savard, bergeron, etc in boston, kessel is a lone-star. pfft bozak? hes good but kessel makes him better IMO

lol, clearly leafs suck, we used up all our money, and signed serious contracts to x-stars, then the cap was invented... thus, we suck, i dont see why people try to tell us the things we know, no matter what happens, we will be better next year because we have a couple of guys that are interesting to watch, i saw belfour let in a bouncing puck shot, from about mid-ice, go in. It looked like he was drunk or something i was 2nd level behind him, about 5-10 min into the game it happened, against washington, embaressing 5-2 loss, even ovechkins goal was ugly, and how often does that happen.. lmao
got off topic but im bored
