These rumors are maddening...here are a couple more. Took a quick look at some threads didn't see these mentioned.....
Of course still hearing Flyers want Bernier...but doesn't sound likely to me.
We shall see soon......
Quote:
Chuck Gormley of the Courier Journal: With the signing of Nikolai Zherdev, the Flyers are $1.4 million over the cap, and still have RFA’s Daniel Carcillo and Darrol Powe. They are still trying to move Simon Gagne, and have been linked to the Kings for weeks, but they could also be talking to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flyers could package Gagne and Braydon Coburn ($8.45 million in salary) for Tomas Kaberle ($4.25 million). The Flyers might request goaltending prospect,Jussi Rynnas as well.
Allan Muir of Sports Illustrated: Muir thinks that the Flyers could send Simon Gagne to the Kings for defensive prospect, Thomas Hickey. The Kings have a surplus of young defenseman. I could see the Flyers doing this deal, but I’m not sure the Kings are completely sold on Gagne, and Hickey is a top prospect.
It's like throwing a bunch of wet socks at a locker...eventually one of these rumors is going to stick.
The Toronto and Rynnas one is interesting although it sounds concocted by Gormley although not totally implausible. I know the Flyers interviewed Rynnas but he was being courted by a number of teams including Dallas. Chose Toronto since he felt he had a better chance at starting...but I would think he has a better chance here! Anyway, Flyers settled for Bobrovsky once Rynnas chose Toronto.
Here is an article on Rynnas with an embedded clip....he does sound like an intriguing prospect and could play much quicker than Bobrovsky who Meltzer says he needs one full year at least at the AHL level.
Sorry, but the Leafs will not be trading you Rynnas after we just signed him. If any goalie prospect is coming your way, it sure is not coming from us, and if it is, it'll be Reimer. Burke has said he wants 5 young goalies in the system at a time, we now have 5, if we give one to you, then well you do the math.

Ok you can have Bobrovsky then......Flyers went after Rynnas before Bobrovsky so they would probably do the swap if Toronto was willing. You would then still have your Fab 5....

NO, WE KEEP BOBROVSKY.
Seriously, kid is going to be good. You heard it here.
Kaberle is wasting our time and money. Don't get me wrong, I want Gags to stay. If it is in the interest of the team, you get top prospects or solid second/third lines guys or picks for him.
This team needs right wings or defensive prospects. Trading Coburn is iffy, especially to any team in the East.

Rynnas sounds like he has the most upside out of him, Scrivens and Reimer but he's also the most raw. He'll definitely spend next season in the AHL and my guess would be that Reimer backs up Gustavsson to begin with once Giguere's contract is up next summer, unless we resign him cheap.
I'd be surprised to see us move Rynnas because it doesn't do a lot for our pitch next time we want another European/college free agent.

Flyers went after Bobrovsky FIRST. Bobrovsky is who they wanted. Rynnas was second fiddle this offseason for the Flyers' organization. He was the one we went after if we didn't get Bobrovsky.

Backlund is more NHL ready than Rynnas. If it came down to it, I'd use him anyway if it meant letting Bobrovsky have his shot. I really want Bobrovsky to get a full year of AHL. I'd feel the same about Rynnas.

The Gagne+Coburn for Kaberle is obviously just a cap cutter move which I don't like. If we trade Gagne I'm expecting a goalie or strong prospect in return. The Kings rumor is the better one for the Flyers.

Is this truly the case? It seemed Rynnas was sought after first by the reports in the media and then Bobrovsky was picked up? Can you provide a timeline? I'm just curious on this one. Obviously not privy to what management was thinking and maybe Bobrovsky was indeed the first choice it's just that I don't recall seeing reports that suggested it that way.
