Surely you see a huge difference between Demitra and Kovalchuk, right?

Let me help you out, here:

One is a player who's 35 years old (will be 36 by the end of November).

Has had three 30+ goals (35, 36 and 37 goal) seasons in 16 years in the league.

Has had so many injuries so often, that, his apartment is actually an old abandoned Operating Room above a major Hospital. He hasn't come close to a full NHL season since 2002-03 (seven seasons ago).

The other is a 27 year old (just turned 27 in April) who has four 40+ Goal seasons and two 50+ goal seasons; in 8 NHL seasons.

Has had two 90+ Points seasons and three 80+ Points seasons; in 8 seasons.

Demitra has had one 80+ Points season and one 90+ season, in 16 seasons. The only 90+ Point season being seven years ago. The 80+ Point season .....11 years ago.

Kovla has only missed 35 games due to injury in eight seasons.

Demitra only played 28 games last season.

I think you can see the differences between the two players, right?

As long as we can trade him @ deadline if we sell then I'd take him @ prospals $. Could have a big start playing w Gabby & will get injured eventually so he we can get a kid up for some experience as well most likely. Lol but we'd likely get good production to start the year & hopefully pick up a pick @ deadline.

That's what we said about Prospal. And the trade deadline came. And he would have been a good chip.

We didn't trade him because we were within striking distance of a playoff spot.

The exact thing will happen this year.

Once again, it is signings like Proispal and Demitra that insure this team will never be sellers at the deadline.

why cause it makes them good enough to compete for a playoff spot?

I'm good with it.

1 year deal, a couple mill.

Let people like MZA prove they actually belong instead of everyone here just anointing him a 2nd line player in the NHL.

Pavol D is good friends with Gabby. If he signed this would be a lot like the way Sather went out to get Jagr's friends to make his superstar comfortable.

Boogie, Demitra, Prospal are Malik, Nylander, Straka.

Agreed. The dude has been been scoring more than 50 points a year for the last decade. Stepan isn't ready and we're weak down the middle. I'd be happy to have him aboard.

Really? Last I checked he only played 28 games last season due to injury AND being a healthy scratch. Why would we want to bring someone who is grossly on the decline? Because him and Gabby are bros?

Band-Aids aren't going to help the Rangers.

I may or may not have overlooked last years injury-riddled season.

Yeah man. The way to make this team better for the future is definitely to sign 35 year olds for 1 year instead of giving young immensely skilled guys a shot.

Yes, I'd prefer to sign Demitra for 1 year than overpay for some other UFA for multiple years, and if we do sign him it wouldn't be the WORST thing, but he just isn't a difference maker and I see him being totally unnecessary. If we hadn't signed Prospal then sure he'd be a good idea, but it's pointless. We have Dubinsky, Prospal, and Christensen who all play well with Gaborik. We need to get OTHER guys going, not Gaborik. Jesus.

Not sure what the problem would be with giving him a 1-year, $2M contract. His injuries make him a risk, but do we really have much to lose at this point?

Prospal - Demitra - Gaborik
Dubinsky - Christensen - MZA
Drury - Anisimov - Callahan (awesome)
Boogaard - Avery - Prust
Byers, Weise, Boyle

I don't really see too big of a problem with this line-up. Drury is better at center than wing, and Avery is better at wing than center, but they can both play both positions. If anything, maybe we can chuck Avery for a pick. I love the guy, love what he brings to the team, but I just don't know if $2M is worth it for his ~15 games a year that he actually plays up to his ability.

And as for Stepan, I want the Rangers to continue their strategy with their prospects by easing them into the line-up. Stepan just came from college; look what happened to Gilroy when he skipped the AHL. A year with Hartford will do Stepan some good.

He played 28 games last year and 847 total in his career in about 16-17 years. Why sign him if he's gonna do that with us. He may get injured, he may be scratched a lot. I think it's a waste of money.

I don't think he's worth it. He may be worth 1 mil or 1.5 mil, i dont think he's good for the rangers. Who's he gonna replace, Christiansen? Christiansen had a good year last season

If those who are convinced Gaborik had something to do with the Boogaard signing, why would this be any different? they are really good buds. Apparently Sather has no real plan so if Gabby is in his ear he might feel inclined to take on Demitra to center him.

He'll probably be stupid enough to sign him to a multi year deal as well. I wouldnt be surprised. As far as im concerned... a BIG fat no thanks.
