It has been posted but it bares repeating: It shows a significant understanding and respect for Montreal, Canada and the Canadiens. I've always been a fan of Markov but this just goes to prove that the man wants to stay a Hab for life.

+100% respect

can't blame him on this one, being a russian citizen is nothing to be overly proud of

Jeez, that's among the most ignorant comments I've seen. I doubt you meant it in the way that it seems though.

Lemme just say this: People get crazy patriotic about their countries, I doubt Markov wants to hop the fence and be a refugee

I'd like to pretend that I didn't see this comment.

One can be proud of one's country no matter what it is.

I'm sure a good majority of Russians have a pride for their country. Some will have more than others, but it's still pride.

I'm a Leaf fan but I love this! Andrei Markov is pure class. I would be shocked if he doesn't retire a Hab, he should/deserves to retire a Hab. He's the best overall player the Habs have and IMO has been underrated for most of his career. Good for him! it shows he loves the city and country.

Interesting comment that has brought out some responses. lol I guess nobody knows Markov's real reasons for becoming a Canadian citizen except for Andrei Markov. As for the comment above I can somewhat understand it. Past experiences have taught me that there are people from other countries who are not so proud of perhaps
certain aspects of their heritage. But it doesn't necessarily mean they are not proud of their homeland. I know some of those people and it's been explained to me as such.

I also think that to believe a person becomes a citizen of another country for the sole reason of just loving that country could be a little naive too. There has to be something from the past to drive them there? I don't know.

But anyway............congrats to Andrei Markov for being awarded citizenship.

Really proud of Markov right now. It still amazes me how underrated he still is. The dude is pure class. To become a Canadian citizen shows how much he truly loves Montreal, he himself said it yesterday how much Montreal means to him.

Kudos also to Gauthier for going with him to the ceremony.

Next All-Star Game, Markov should wear Ovy's hat with the Canadian Flag in it.

guess you werent taught much... since that could also includes canadians with some (just some) knowledge of their own history...

the guy is a born Russian, that's the country he lived in as a kid, where he grew up... it's part of who he is as a person and there's no shame at all in that... just like there's nothing wrong with being French Canadian, english canadian, American and so on...

You seem to be an expert on my past experiences. I'm honestly not sure of your point and I'll choose to bow out of this discussion now as giving an opinion on this matter may be like walking on a tightrope.
