signing UFA Alexi Ponikarovsky ?

Clearly cap space would have to be made but I think there could be space for him. He doesn't bring the nasty but he does have great size, decent wheels and an adequate scoring touch.

Perhaps a separate trade resulting in a dman coming to town that opens a slot for him on the wing while at the same time allowing the WADE to go to the A could be in the offing.

Not saying its going to happen just what you all think a guy like him could bring to the table for NY.

Dobber has his value pegged at 2.5 per season.

I think he'd be a solid 2nd line winger, but there's no room for him IMO.

He was god-awful in Pittsburgh despite being given every opportunity to succeed.

Pass.

Another big winger that plays soft doesn't fight and very streaky. Just what the rangers need :/ no thanks.

I used to want Poni, before we traded for Antropov, but I'll be the first to admit I'm glad we didn't and that he'll be a lot worse than what Antropov was for us (which is solid...if he were really going to be Antropov 2.0 for us I'd be on board.)

I didn't think Antropov was that bad for us. 13pts in 18 games and scored two during the Caps series debacle.

Nik would've been a nice fit on this center-less team.

too much money for too long for a guy who disappears too often.

the whole team, less Hank sucked.

I'd be happy with signing him if room was made, but right now there's pretty much no room for another forward. Avery or Drury (hah) needs to be moved.

Prospal - Christensen - Gaborik
Dubinsky - Anisimov - MZA
Avery - Drury - Callahan
Boogaard - Boyle - Prust
Byers, Weise

The only way I could see a way to fit him would be to get rid of one of the 2 mentioned above, pop Anisimov down to the 3rd line, and move Dubinsky to 2nd line center, which is not where he's been playing his best.

Antropov >>> Poni
how does a guy not succeed playing with Malkin or Crosby. He was not only given chances, but very good chances.

Am I missing something here? Antropov played very well for us and was by far our best winger down the stretch and in the playoffs, which isn't saying much.

He's a better player than Ponikarovsky...major pass.

LOL exactly, Antro was great for us...Poni was terrible playing with Crosby and Malkin...hmm wonder how he'd do here with our prowess of playmaking centers

Can we get Nik back from Atlanta?

Nik has a $4 million cap hit and they may need to hit the floor... maybe send Rosey, Brashear(wishful thinking, I know), a 2nd in 2011 and a prospect? Weise, Byers, Gilroy?

Just off the top of my head... I'm sure I'll get killed for it.

If we're to have any faith in our supposedly elite prospect pool, then why would we sign this guy if we have Evgeni Grachev in the wings?

No thanks on Poni.

No one wants Brashear. Rozsival plus Gilroy and a 2nd is not a terrible offer valuewise, but the Thrashers need Nik a lot more than they need Rozsival.

Antropov just had a career year. It would take a lot more than our garbage to get him from Atlanta.
