Maxim Lapierre re-signs with the Habs (1 year, 900K)

I just received tomorrow's edition of La Presse and it mentions that Lapierre re-signed with the Habs and that it's going to be announced sometime during the week. He'll make a little more than the 840,000$ he was guaranteed to get. His agent also mentions in the article that Lapierre never intended to go to arbitration.

La nouvelle devrait être confirmée par les deux parties cette semaine.
I put the tag as News Article for now as its not confirmed, I'll change it after we get a link or two, tomorrow I'd guess.

In the RDS video re: his contract negotiation, Lappy appeared genuinely eager to remain with the CH. He stated, "regardless of the terms, I'll be ready for next year".

Given his 09-10 regular season play, I'm glad to see he is honest and humble enough to have [reportedly] accepted barely more than a minimum raise.

Awesome stuff. I've enjoyed watching Lapierre since 2002, good to see a contract get done.

One of my favorite plays of the Pittsburgh series was when Orpik found it more important to entangle Lapierre in the net while the Habs were busy scoring a goal.

That was the Laps I adore. LOL And I am glad he's signed up.

So we have what, around 4.5m-4.8m left with only price to sign?

Yeah i think we are a shade under 5 million with only Price left to sign...that's a lineup with 12 forwards, 7 d and Auld.

Assuming Price gets something around $2.5 that leaves us with $2.5. Assuming we bring in a forward and drop Darche down to the AHL that gives us $3 million, or back down to $2.5 to maintain some wiggle room.

Should be more than enough to add some grit to the 3rd line...Asham, Torres, Artyukhin...

Per CapGeek, The Habs had signed 19 players before the Lapierre signing and had a cap space of $5.628M. Since a roster is generally 23 players (14 forwards, 7 D's and 2 goalies) we need to add 4 players
RW/C - Lapierre - $0.840M
RW - e.g. White or Avtsin - $0.850M (White's salary)
LW - e.g. Pacioretty $0.910M
G - Price (That leaves $3.028M to sign him).

I would go with a 22 players roster or 13 forwards 8 defenseman

Also 4 points in 19 games in PO: pace of 16 points in 76 games...

Just thinking that (me) expecting 30 points from him based on PO maybe too much.
Between 20 and 25 points seems more realist/optimist...
If he had played up to par in more than about 1/4 of the season he'd have been around 25-30. He's lucky he's getting a raise after a bad year, on some teams he'd be non-tendered.

Keeping Avtsin at 19 would be another huge player developmental blunder along the lines of the Price and Pacioretty ones.

Pacioretty should start the year AHL and work on his offensive game, instead of playing 8 minutes a night on an engery line.

i doubt he can maintain that pace or else he'd be fighting for a top 6 forward position. I think he needs to have more pk time, take some weight off plecky. Im happy to see him come back.

Im not talking about points. Im talking about his intensity, his ability to get under others players skin, skating hard, retreiving pucks, winning his battles, pk obviously( should definately get more pk time). Those are the intagelibles that he must show every shift. Just because he is a fourth liner making 840k, doesn't give him the excuse to not perform every night and for us as well to make up excuse for him.
