I'd love if Selane came back, but it'd be nice if the defense was addressed.

I was coming in here to say the exact same thing haha. Murray better move his ass and get the D figured out before 2 hall of famers retire because we are gonna suck.

I guess Selanne only wants 4 years, but Murray wants to lock him up for 5.

If you really want him back that bad, all you gotta do is to sign Kariya

I actually think Selanne realizes the D is awful and wants Murray to address it in the next week. Selanne has played withouy Kariya for so long that I really dont think that is a huge factor.

Selanne wants to play on a competitve team and he sees our D as it is comprised is not competitive.

Ugh...I know it has been beaten to death, but if Murray pulls something out of his ass to shore up the D and we have room for Paul I'm all for it and I'm sure most Ducks fans really are deep down(you big softies!). BUT, defense has to come first. It's a priority over Selanne IMO.

You're right that he won't retire just because Kariya isn't coming here. But signing him sure won't make Selanne sad. A couple of years ago Teemu stated that, for him, there's only one real #9 in Anaheim... Pretty sure it was in the OCR, and they are still friends.

Agreed, the only way I see it possibly happening is if Blake or Lupul is moved. Hopefully we can land a defenseman soon for Blake and picks/prospects.

Selanne wants 4 years? Murray wants 5 WTF

that does not seem right at all. Selanne will be 45 at the end of his contract? i really don't expect him to play that long at all. I'm thinking like 2 years if we are lucky, 3 years if his kids harass him daily.

I thought the understanding would be that Selanne would just sign another 1 year contract and play it by ear next summer? What is up with this 4 year 5 year deal now?

I imagine that Selanne is being hesitant because of Murrays comment about either going young or adding someone. He said he hasn't decided yet. I bet Selanne is hoping he decides by then, and I'm pretty sure he agrees with most us when we say "**** going young."

Well going young doesn't mean we will get a bad player. It all comes down to what he gives up in return. "I haven't decided yet. We have some options".

That could mean a veteran like Souray or a UFA or someone fairly young like Bieksa or Klesla for instance. Let's say his "options" are those three right now... I don't think age will be the factor, but he's still undecided because he wants the best deal. That's how I took his quotes.

I hope you're right, but here's the full quotes from what I read:

"We're trying to create a different mix on the back end," Ducks GM Bob Murray told the paper. "Obviously I wasn't happy with how our defense performed last year and that's not pointed at Steve Eminger. We're looking at changing the mix."

"Speaking of the scenarios in either going young or adding a veteran," Murray said, "both are possible. I haven't decided yet. We have some options."

IMO, his "going young" means going with what we have. I would consider Bieksa and Klesla veterans the way he used the term. Again though, I hope he means it the way you took it.

We've got great depth at defense in the farm system, I wouldn't mind moving one of them and another roster player (Lupul, Blake, etc.) for a young defenseman that's ready for a top four role.

Well it could be someone like Coburn for instance... Trading for prospects and put them in the lineup isn't exactly something Murray usually does. If he means going young is a 20-22 year old, I think it will be Sbisa.

Helen Elliott (LA Times): "No decision expected from Teemu Selanne this week. Ducks GM Bob Murray said they've talked and are scheduled to talk again next week."

Nothing new - if at all, he'll likely sign later to allow the club flexibility with the cap.

That's what I thought after reading it. If he goes with Sbisa as a top 4 again, we can also kiss our chances of competing again..
