ECHL to Thunder Bay?

Ice Edge(the same group who is trying to buy the Phoenix Coyotes) is looking at putting an ECHL team in Thunder Bay. The deal is contingent on the city building a new arena.

Originally the plan for IEH was NHL team in Phoenix OR AHL team in Thunder Bay.

Now it seems like a good chance they'll get the NHL team, so guess they're looking at an affiliate in TB to fulfill their desire to see hockey "near home".

IEH are a from Thunder Bay and have been trying get a team of some sort for about 5 years. The problem has been that the city has yet to build a new arena, and the Fort William Gardens are too small and outdated for a semi pro team.

the only problem, CS, is IEH lands Phoenix, who runs Thunder Bay, and replaces the current arena? IEH is going to be too focused on maintaining and settling the Coyotes in Arizona and working w/ Glendale rather than focusing on Thunder Bay.

the only reason initial reports switched from the AHL to ECHL is someone thought Phoenix owns their AHL franchise, which in fact, is false.

If Thunder Bay gets a team the arena will have been built completely on government money.

IEH doesn't plan on putting any money towards the arena, just the ECHL team.
