I love you buddy. Even after all of these years...regressed offensively and defensively, he still was among the best at face offs.

Love, this is what I have for Rod Brind'amour.

If Carolina is smart, they'll keep him on staff as a strength and conditioning coach.
Rutherford said he asked Roddy if he wanted to do that and Roddy just laughed and said I don't think you want me to. But he will have a job in management, we just don't know what yet. Rutherford said he told Roddy to put a list together of what he wants to do and they will go from there.

#17 will also be raised to the rafters this season. We are assuming its gonna be either Nov 11 or Feb 18 when we take on the Flyers.

Thanks for everything Rod

what a great carear. great guy too. was most excited when the canes won the cup and rod got his hands on the cup.

i've seen rod play several times, watched him with Notre Dame Hounds, and in Vancouver,Calgary,Edmonton several times over the years.

my all time favorite flyer. brindy epitomized flyers hockey. my favorite non-flyer moment was watching him lift the cup, just wish he was wearing a flyers jersey when he didi it.

Rod Brind'Amour was my first favorite player, and crushed me when he got traded. I was somewhat non-chalant when the Hurricanes won the Cup in 2006 (more out of satisfied a team I hated wasn't going to win), but looking back thankful he got to lift the Cup even though it wasn't here. A shame and travesty he didn't get to do it here, but his mission was fulfilled and I say he's getting into the Hall of Fame. That said it took until he won the Stanley Cup for him to get the national recognition he deserved.

The Hurricanes announced today that they will be retiring Rod's #17 prior to the Canes/Flyers game on Feb 18th. If any of you Brindy fans are interested in taking a road trip, it should be something special!

Laviolette will be there too. Nice choice of date by the Hurricanes.

I think they were more excited THE FLYERS would be there, then just Laviolette, lol.

Awesome date BTW. Solid job Carolina, solid job.

I'm a huge Brindy fan, one of my favorite ex-Flyers.

Rod Brind'Amour was my favorite Flyer on those teams in the 90's. I'll never forget how pissed I was when he was traded because he was traded right before the Wives carnival, and I was finally going to meet him. Then he was traded. Of course the story goes Clarke wanted to trade the big retard instead, but Snider nixed it.
Tocchet and Lindros were rumored to have fought shortly after the trade.
Anyway congrats on a great career Brindy!
quite the honor to have your number retired. like Dig said, I wish I could be there.
Next stop HHOF

That choice of date makes so much sense that I'm surprised it happened.

It's a Friday game too, and that means a guaranteed sell-out for a weekday game (even though it is a friday, I think the Canes sometimes have trouble with them.)

The Friday issues are generally in the fall (HS sports are huge down here) but that tends to die out come December/January. For a jersey retirement they should be able to bring in a good crowd any day of the week. But being that it's Brindy? I'll be beyond shocked if the place isn't packed.

Hopefully some of you guys get the chance to make the trip down for it.

Classy move by the Hurricanes to retire his number on a Flyers gamenight. Hats off.

Loved Brindamour when he was here and definitely cheered for him in Carolina. Wish he could have lifted one with us instead, but I'm happy he got at least one.
