Lapierre Boyd Darche

Now we look like contender !!!

Markov O'byrne
Spacek Subban
Gill Gorges

Weber / Carle

Price
Auld

I'd like to know if that line up could fit under the cap
Where did you see that Kovalchuk wanted to join the Habs

On topic, pretty trilled to see what Avtsyn can do in the AHL or LHJMQ. Either way, looking forward to see him play. Pretty intriguing prospect.

If the Habs decides to take a chance and pick a russian, they should also make sure to do everything for that russian to adapt well in north america. I think we have experienced a lots of russian that didn't adapted well and didn't play the way we expected them to.

Sometimes, its not just always about talent and hockey.
Agreed.
And if he gets the off-ice support ne needs to facilitate the transition, Emelin might even hear about it eventually :-)

Since some people are asking about it, Avtsin is NOT playing in the LHJMQ next season. The juniors lost his rights: http://blogues.cyberpresse.ca/lnh/20...ine-ou-la-lnh/

So it's AHL or NHL (or both)

Even if the Juniors hadn't lost his rights, it would be stupid to sign him just to play in the Q

Nope, rookie deals AKA entry level contracts are 3 years only.

3 Goals and 9 points in 30 games...I must be missing something.
I'll believe the hype anyway.

Ovechkin had less points than him in the same league at the same age ...

Avstin didn't play every match and was usually 5-6 mins on the fourth line. He also got injured..

I blame TSN for these Ovechkin comparisons: http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?fid=7335

No he didn't. You're looking at the year when he was 16. At 18 years old Ovechkin had 23 points in the RSL.

In deed I was missing something. The site I was on only showed last years stats. But 08-09 was quite impressive. How did we land a player like this later in the draft? And how was I not aware of this guy until this off-season?

the general consensus is that nobody was sure if he could play well against a higher level of competition. That and the russian factor made him a 4th rounder.

Not that I want to compare the two, but I'm pretty sure Ovechkin wasn't getting 8 or less minutes of icetime per game on the 4th line. Avstin's 9 points in 30 games with limited icetime is quite impressive. Been excited since seeing him at the dev camp last year. He may not ever be a first liner, but the guy actually seems to have heart and a work ethic (plus he wants to be here).

The hype is nice and all but I hope you people won't go crazy on him if he doesn't become the next Ovechkin/Kovalchuk/Russian Superstar...

He was much more better at the end of the season that at the beginning. He got 7 of his 9 pts in his last 12 games ( pointless in the 2 last).

Actually I'd go with a more physical Alexander Semin who can also play on the PK. He's got the same body, stride and quick hands.

Can't say he'll score as many goals (he won't be playing with Ovechkin and Backstrom after all).

I'm pumped, but I just hope Montreal does what Pittsburgh did and Bunk Avtsin with Markov like Gonchar bunked with Malkin. Its the way to groom a player properly and especially since Avtsin doesn't have much here, hes clearly making an effort.

They'd still see the thread title, just not your original post.
