Modano to play with Detroit...

Just saw it on his twitter...

Lebrun spoke to Babcock and Mike said Modano will sign and play 2 years in Detroit....

Lebrun is reliable....if true, good pickup for the wings. Would love to have him cheap to center the habs 3rd line.

While I won't be surprised about him signing there, I am surprised that its not a one year deal. Overall, Modano should fit in well with any contending team, so this will be a good signing by the Wings.

I was thinking the same thing. He's a little old for a 2 year deal, if you ask me. He could get injured, and it would get stuck against the cap.

This has been really on-again, off-again.

Would have liked a 1 year deal. Judgement reserved until I see the price tag.

Would he play a 3rd or 4th line role?

He'll be traded to Dallas if he doesn't play well enough

Most likely 3rd line and 2nd PP. The interesting question will be who gets the shaft. Detroit has way too many forwards already and they are reportedly talking about bringing Maltby back as well.

How many AARP members does that make for the Red Wings?

Lebrun is a very reliable source. Good move by the Wings.

Based on what i've read it seems that while this is likely to happen, it hasn't happened yet, so it should probably be changed to speculation.

He's been playing a 3rd line role for most of the last three seasons.

So we will have another 2 kids and a goat line. That worked out pretty well last time.

Same, would have been an epic final game at the end of the season.

I think it's the plan....I was a bit shocked when I saw the 2 years.....

Could be and will be a good addition to their 3rd line and maybe some PK/PP 2nd unit....

Little surprised about 2 years, if true. Puts a slightly different angle on Nieuwendyk letting him go this off season. I am glad he ended up with the Wings rather than a division rival or with a non-contender like Minnesota.

I doubt very much he signs for two years.

He can only get veteran bonuses on a one-year contract.

My guess is he signs a one year at 1.5M with 500K available in bonuses.

He did still get 30 points in 59 games last season. He'd be a fine third line center.

The spec is Modano will suit up between Cleary and Hudler? Add in some PP time and is there any doubt he'll get 50+ points? Great singing when official.
