Probably because you're a "casual" fan of the team. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Don't know if this was already mentioned, but he was drafted last year in the CHL import draft. I doubt he will be sent to junior, but it is a posssibility.

Discussed earlier, the CHL team (Montréal Jrs) lost his rights.

It's AHL, or NHL.

It's probably been discussed earlier, but I think the Habs should try to find a russian-speaking guy to help him in Hamilton. A translator would be good, but it's not the same as a teammate.

For training camp, I suppose that Markov will take him under his wing even if he is injured, it would be the perfect way to see what kind of leader Markov is.

Or Andrei Kostitsyn will take him under his wing.... Uh-oh!

'Cause the real news was him leaving his team. That had to mean that signing with us was a gimme.

Yeah, most of them don't bother to come over since they can make more at home. I'm not really sure where another Russian would come from...

They/he could be taking intensive English classes to get his foot in the door for English, at which point everyone will understand him. Seems to me English people understand their language broken better than others do.

I hope his transition is a good one.

Living near Hamilton, I really like this signing since I'll get to see him play. He's likely due at least 1 year with the Bulldogs as he gets used to the North American ice surface and living in Canada. Hopefully he's more adept at picking up the language than Andrei Kostitsyn has been.

And I'm not bashing Andrei, he speaks better English than I do French and I lived in Montreal for over 20 years.

He didn't even play a game in the NHL and he is a 60/70 goal scorer now... Yeah right?

Not sure if it has been discussed before, but according to capgeek it's a 3 years 606 000$ cap hit......i'm shocked it's really not expensive!!! Nice signing PG, if he can crack the lineup in the second year of his contract (which I think he will), we'll have a very good young and inexpensive third line with Eller-Avstin-Anyone...

I would love to see him dominate the AHL, but I choose to be realistic in my expectations...
That's what I said...

Give me the right to doubt about it, Semin is one of the most skilled guys in the NHL, if ever Avtsin has close his skills level and is more physical, we have an all star in our hands.. Personally I will wait to see what the kid can do in the AHL and I will try to not be that much desapointed if ever it doesnt work for him and comes back home at some point in the season involving some "familly reasons".

I should have been more explicit. I'm talking about style of play here. Not potential. He's tall, lanky, very quick, uses a long stick and likes to keep the puck (also right-handed) and dangle around opponents. From the videos, his style is thus comparable to Semin IMO.

It's easy to get excited about Russian prospects, there's the allure of the unknown with them and your imagination/wishful thinking fills in the blanks. Look at me, I'm still hoping that AKost turns into a Marian Hossa under Martin. Hope springs eternal.

I'm not sure how comparable they are, but at least a little

What do I like most about Avtsin before I've seen him? He's tall and shoots RIGHT. a scarcity on the Habs.

All Ill be saying here is that he wont have the time to skate that free in the neutral zone at the NHL level.. will probably have to work on the basics in the AHL..

optimistic much? honestly, if he becomes a 30 goal, 60 point power forward for us I'd be ecstatic, but lets all temper our expectations a bit, yeah?

I know there were more. I was mostly trying to think which vet out there that "could" be available we could try to get in order to have a big bro for him. Most guys you named are either untouchable, either too young or either not mentor material.

Add maybe Kolosov and/or Trukhno.
