Predators Sign Jamie Lundmark - (1 yr, $600k/$105k two-way deal)

According to @NHLPredsInsider the Preds will announce a depth signing later today. "Someone who has seen equal time in the AHL and the NHL." Any ideas?

Joe Schmoe. He spends most of his time in the AHL.

I'm not even looking at defensemen...I think with the Palin signing last week they are pretty set in Milwaukee...although it is certainly still a possibility as we lack a veteran 6/7...

Anyhow, after reviewing the list...the names that stand out to me...therefore they likely won't be the guy...are:

Jamie Lundmark
Krys Kolanos
Garth Murray
Jeremy Williams
Gregory Stewart - signed today by Edmonton
Ryan Bayda
Matt Ellis
Michael Ryan

It will be a guy that 100% sees all of his action in Milwaukee rather than any in Nashville, especially with the ridiculous amount of forwards we already have!

Or,

Maybe Poile is trying to bring in another guy that can fill in this season on forwards once he pulls the trigger on a trade that moves a few forwards for a real good one???

As much as Krys Kolanos is a one-way player and allegedly a headcase, I'd LOVE to see him in Milwaukee.

But I doubt he's it, seeing as he only played a handful of games in Adirondack last season in the AHL and is coming off surgery.

decent depth signing. i was told last year when calgary waived him, that Poile put in a claim, but he didn't make it past Toronto.

Maybe you guys are planning on rolling like 8 lines? Keep everyone fresh.

Still, you have to love the depth on your club. Lots of young talent with pretty good potential.

I'm hoping for a Top-6 finish for you guys this year. Hopefully everything clicks for you guys.

Lundmark will be in Nashville for a decent stretch of time I'm sure for one reason or another. I wouldn't be shocked to see him put up 10 or 15 points for the Preds unless he's relegated to 4th line duty the whole time. Seems to fit the bill of role player that flourishes in Trotz's system. Maybe flourish is the wrong word for this scenario, but I won't be surprised if he is up because of injuries or promotion and finds a niche on a line here for 20 or 25 games. That being said, I'm not really banking on it or will be let down if it doesn't happen but I'm just throwing it out there.

You know, I don't "do" the lines thing, but even I can tell you that that is, indeed, insane.

The only thing Milwaukee could use is one more defenseman. Some JAG who's an AHL lifer. The funny thing is that with all the forwards who may be left without a chair in free agency. Nashville COULD call up forwards without risk of losing them to waivers. Honestly. this team could beat 4 out of 5 lottery teams in the NHL next year.

Thank god the AHL doesn't have a roster limit. (Oh the limit is 18 forwards per game and 2 goalies)

I'm not so sure about that...there's nearly no chance of him making the team out of camp given his two way contract, combined with the one-way deals of Jonas Andersson and Sergei Kostitsyn. He could be atop the call-up list..but even then, he'll contend with tried and true Trotz favorites like Spaling and Thuresson, not to mention Halischuk and Geoffrion. I do think he'll get some time, but I stop short of predicting "significant stretches"

True I wasn't thinking about one-way deals, but either way I still expect to see him for a little bit. He may get the benefit of the doubt over guys like Thuresson and Spaling because of his ample NHL experience (however I do like what I've seen of Spaling)

In years passed, a big achilles heel has been our lack of depth. Invariably, someone gets hurt, and young guys\completely untalented guys have had to fill roles they weren't suited to. Poile has done a marvelous job of ensuring that we can withstand a few injuries. Guys like Lundmark and even Halischuk can cover spot duty for a while in pretty much any role without hurting you too badly.

Lundmark gets a bad wrap...but look at his PPG in Calgary--it's right at about .5. If we get a 40 point pace out of him, I don't think a single one of us will complain.

This is a good point. It's very rare for one of our call ups to look comfortable or produce anything when we have an injury. If we're able to sign a guy like Lundmark who is okay with that role then more power to us to sign him. I think he will get a lot of attention in Milwaukee because of how much NHL experience he has.

This really makes no sense if he stays at center. Lundmark should be a 4th liner in the NHL. I don't care for the guy really but he is what he is, if the guy can produce .5 points per game on the 4th line in Nashville it would be a help. Makes no sense to sign a NHL 4th liner when you have an abundance of them without a plan to move some of them. It is also a streach to think signing a 4th liner makes room to move players to get a high caliber player. You have to believe that there is something that we have no clue about going to happen before the start of the season. If you sign a player that has produced 40 points a year and you have players hat have not something is up other than a depth signing.

I dont think another move is coming, I think Poile is learning to stack some depth. EVery year we have a midseason stretch where 3 of our top 6 go down at the same time.

This time we will be prepared. I like it.
