There are only 4 players on the Devils that the Leafs are interested in (Zajac, Parise, Elias & Brodeur), if you're not willing to part with one of them, there's 0 reason to discuss any trade involving a defenceman other than Jeff Finger.
If thats the way Burke operated, there's no way he will get any trade done. Kabs as a 1 year rental will NOT net that type of return anyways as teams might as well wait it out and bid for him when he becomes a UFA (if they really want him).

Also for those over valuing Kabs... don't forget this is the same player that ended the year with 3 points in 22 games and called out by coaches. If he starts the year the same way, his value will go down the drain. Burke will likely deal him by mid Aug to avoid the NTC and the risk of him under performing regardless of what he says publicly.

.
thats flawed logic. so if the isles were to trade mark eaton (their second best dman) to the devils we shoudl expect their 2nd best forward coming back? thats an awful way to value trades.

isles got destroyed in this deal.

Either that, or you will simply call whatever player you receive a “Top line forward”
I'd be suprised to see him traded.

Yet for some strange reason, Kaberle is still a Leaf even after everyone said that would be impossible last offseason. Maybe it is because Burke DOES operate like that??? He looks at his roster, assesses his needs, and decides what he is willing to trade each player for. He's not there to make trades for the sake of making trades.

His production went down the drain; but that's because the Leafs traded 4/6 top 6 fowards.

That's not how the Leafs value the trade though....that's how some people on this board are attempting to value trades, saying there's no way a team is giving up their 2nd or 3rd best forward..... when in reality, that forward's position on the team isn't what really matters. What matters is how the loss of that forward affects the team and what the available alternatives are.

The Leafs value it as the fact that tehy have 1 major need -- a top line LW to add to their core. If you aren't offering that, there's really no incentive to make any trade that hurts the blueline. If a team would like a defenceman, Jeff Finger is available.

hes not saying that, He's saying that Kaberle is a unique situation, since they know Kaberle will resign in toronto, They wont move him unless they get a certain level of value back..... they may not even get offered that "level of value" but that is what it is.....

its like a reserve on a bid on ebay...if the offer is above the reserve its accepted, if no bid is above the reserve then no sale happens

That's actually not a bad analogy.
